2015 anthem sx 27.5 advanced RockShox Revelation fork travel

Hi all, it's been a few years between posts but i'm back into it with a new lightweight bike after 4 years on a 2010 Reign sx (amazing bike). I'm finding the 120mm travel a bit restrictive and a bit aggressive in the geometry stakes.

I was wondering if my current forks are adjustable (via spacer or otherwise) to 140mm travel internally (the website states that the 27.5 version is only available in 150/140/130/100mm as per https://www.sram.com/rockshox/products/revelation-rl )

Although giants website says: RockShox Revelation RL w/ 15mm thru-axle, OverDrive steerer, 120mm travel

If not adjustable is there a viable replacement anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Cheers n beers

does it have a sag marker for longer travel?

if so, the new RockShox forks forks are adjustable via replacement of the air spring rod. these are preset, so a new rod is required for any given travel. (apparently you can cut up to about 10mm off though)

Sounds like you should have got a Trance. Given the SX is already the longer-forked version of the Anthem platform, I'd be wary of putting anything longer in it for risk of compromising the headtube attachment.

Thanks guys, yes it has 2 x tiered sag markers (one gold, one hollow black) that appears to go below the top out point. The difference between the two 30% indicators is only 10mm though. I'm just wondering if this RL is a special OEM setup for giant due the 120 travel.

perhaps a similar setup internally to this? http://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-suspension/rockshox-revelation-rl-140mm-150mm-797952.html

I came across this bike second hand with only 500ks on it and cheaper than a new aluminium specced anthem sx, and with the spec I couldn't really pass it up. May swap out the frame if 100mm travel gets to be too rambunctious!

My bet is that it is a 100-120mm travel OEM fork, given that they spec Revelations on Anthems and SX's. But who knows. They use 140mm Revs on Trances too.

Thanks all!

Great read Clint.. that sounds similar to the setup i want.

I've been digging around and the solution seems pretty simple for once! Rockshox Revelations, along with a bunch of the other solo air forks can be altered with the use of an air shaft replacement and changing the "bottomless tokens".

Video how to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WcCIFguChA

Service manuals and spare parts catalogs to find the right air shaft model no.: https://www.sram.com/service/rockshox/7,107

Bottomless token chart: http://fcdn.mtbr.com/attachments/sh...d1428690248-bottomless-tokens-2013-reba-1.jpg

I've ordered a 150mm air shaft from the US (ebay) $50 posted : part no 11.4018.022.000. And I only have to remove the 3 factory installed bottomless tokens.

Probably going to get spammed for this but i think the change in geometry (120mm to 150mm) should be equivalent to the head angle, bar height and bb height i want.
Will put up a build update once the parts in! Cheers all

It's worth stating that IF you suffer a frame breakage due to the fork travel (particularly due to its effect of slackening the head) exceeding the frame's spec you're unlikely to have warranty support.

FWIW on my Anthem I eventually extended the stock Reba100 to 120 and when the trails I rode even outgrew even that, it was time to get a new bike. Happily on a Trance SX now.

I was considering bigger forks and angleset for my anthem but I reconsidered. Going to go something along the lines of a Banshee Phantom or Kona Process 111 next instead. I don't think the anthem was designed with abuse in mind.

cheers,

Install an angleset

Mate of mine has the same bike and installed an angleset, made a noticeable difference.
Crane Creek angleset not a huge outlay for slacker front end.

Same here; after upping fork to 120 I was then considering angleset but I knew I was going to break the frame if I kept pushing it. It is a lightweight XC bike.
