Little Things You Hate

LTIH - people trying to upsell you shit, I sold my last car during Covid and then we brought a cheap minivan for getting around with the grandkids and was good for the bikes too ;)
Then one day Mrs Cammas backed into the letterbox, insurance wrote it off , long story short it’s time to buy a car.
Anyway we have been looking since about Feb trying to decide what will suit us or realistically what will suit Mrs Cammas, so we made our decision then comes the up selling, nope I don’t want to buy the next model up because it has two sunroof’s or I can cool my sweaty arse in the summer time. Once that was dealt with bring on round two of the up sell, do you want our $2000 paint protection or our $1200 interior protection, um no.

What’s really going to be funny is that I noticed after I putting down a deposit I asked for some other extras and when they sent the new paperwork it had the tow bar and window tint as no charge. All the paperwork is done so no backsies now.

Just curious, if you speed past all 4 of them do you get done 4 times or just the first one.
I think I know with it being Victoria but curious.
In NSW they put out signs to warn you

This is kinda what I was getting at in the back of my head, the marks on the road don't really suggest this fuckwit wasn't paying attention to someone crossing the road and reacting badly at the last minute. Those marks don't look like a locked up tyre as ABS takes care of that. This guy has either looped out losing control or..................he was aiming for her.
Or, the cops have this all arse up and she was crossing the road and this deadshit swerved to miss her.

Little things I hate: Cyclists thinking that the law allowing them to ride on a shit part of road is some sort of protective coating. And conversely, authorities saying a shit part of road is okay to ride on. There needs to be more roads prohibited from cycling, you can have many an encounter with a cyclist just riding along while you're just driving along and shit gets real. We have many spots around town here that people ride on that are woeful and dangerous. And these aren't people commuting, it is people beating yesty's Strava time. Make better choices on your bike and don't chance ruining someone's day who is just getting from A to B. :(

At a special Pedal Power ride on Easter Monday, 15 cyclists stopped at the traffic lights where Alicia Celaya Jauregui was recently killed while riding her bike.

Their ride leader wrote this tribute.

At the end of Wednesday’s C ride on 20 March I went home through these traffic lights. Three hours later Alicia Celaya Jauregui died while on this road.

My immediate thought after the numb still that accompanies such shock news … ‘there but for fortune’. Perhaps luck or providence, but we never know what will befall us in life as we live each day.

We all know that cycling has its dangers. But this occurred while she was innocently cycling and her death simply due to a reckless 18-year-old P plate driver.

There is a last line in the one stanza Ogden Nash poem ‘Old Men’.
‘But the old men know when an old man dies’.

As a cyclist we identify with another cyclist. There is a common bond in appreciation as we move together. The communion and love of cycling is something I treasure since joining Pedal Power nearly 5 years ago now.

And there is a double identity for me as I am a tennis player too. I am 40 years Alicia’s senior. It is so tragic that a young exuberant beautiful woman should be stopped dead and be curtailed in enjoying the experience of a long life.

Yesterday was Easter Sunday where the continuance of life is celebrated in the Christian tradition. And the way I feel today, when on the other side I will give Alicia an enormous hug.

As a tribute to Alicia go pedal hard and make the most of every ride. And today ride with her in your heart.

I've seen that before, I think it happens when they're training new operators. I'd be very surprised of you got more than one fine (but wouldn't test it to find out!).

In NSW it would be treated as a single offence. They actually removed a fixed camera from the approach to the spit bridge for that reason.

Takes double demerit public holidays to a new level, 66 in a 60, 3pts for each x 4 cameras in a row, instant loss of licence o_O

I've only had 2 speeding fines in my life, both from the same camera, on the same day, though 2-3hrs apart.

Took the boys to a MTB race at Eagle, done 61kph there and 61kph back, turns out Sheoak road, a country road is 50kph. Somebody from DIT must live on it.
$438 and 3 points each way chunts.

Along this section of road there are a crazy amount of fixed speed cameras and red light cameras. Pretty much every time you drive that section of road you will ses a camera flash.

Late one night after a gig I saw a car speed away from me to catch the amber at intersection #1. They missed and the red light camera went flash. They must have cracked the shits as they sped up to get to the freeway further ahead as they mistimed the amber on the next set of light and set off both the speed camera and the redlight camera. Flash Flash.
It's those people who make my wife ask me to slow down at intersections when coming home in the wee hours in case some on is speeding through against the red.

Seeing that happen would be one of the Little Things I Love! Nothing like seeing Karma in action.

Think I’ve seen speed cameras maybe twice down here, and they’re bleeding obvious big white trailers they leave parked up with “this is a speed camera” signs on them. But getting above 50 around Hobart takes some effort on the narrow and rough roads!

Canberra helpfully labels its big white vans too - still got done by one though…
