Torque caps WTF

So am riding with friend and asked how his replacement forks are going.
He says there is a problem cos of torque caps on one not the other and front wheel needs conversion .
Never heard of these obscure things before that sound like pseudo science BS.
Not sure that Boost front forks increase stiffness or that going from straight to tapered steerer made a huge difference ?
Bigger stanchions as forks get longer = yes.
Surely most of the torsion wobble occurs below the crown and above the axle ?

I don't think it makes any difference for stiffness, it just makes it easier putting your wheel on with Rockshox forks due to the larger area see below, otherwise wheel slops around a bit until tightened, never noticed any other difference when riding. Don't worry Mavic did it for their XA wheels on any fork and the cap would fall off anytime you took the wheel off, I ended up getting some made after loosing one then put a dab of locktite on each one so they didnt fall off again.
