Hi Fellow Mountain Bikers,

I'm going along to a Forum next Thursday 7th October from 6pm - 8pm at
Turramurra Bowling Club to support Mountain Biking in the National Parks
surrounding North Epping.

If anyone else can join me I'm sure your support will be appreciated.

All the details of the forum are set out in the email below.

Hi Everyone,

In an earlier letter we told you about how DECCW / NPWS have a
discussion paper out there for comment (comments close on 19 Oct 2010)
and that they would be consulting the community in the coming months.
Well the time has come sooner than expected and there is one public
forum for Northern Sydney. We have included the full invitation below
from NPWS.

Its on at Turramurra Bowling Club on 7th October. This will basically
be the final forum for our area that DECCW uses to form their feedback
on the mountain biking discussion paper.

The conservationist groups will be there in force to have their say and
speak against the right for mountain bikes to ride on single-track in
National Parks.

Sadly the conservationists have been doing anything they can to try and
derail and stop the process. They will be honing in on parts of the
document that talk about the negative impacts of mountain bikes
(section 3.1).

However, as pointed out in the discussion paper, allowing mountain
bikes into National Parks on well built sustainable trails will have a
better outcome for the environment by getting more people to appreciate
and thus want to protect the bushland.

Please, if you can make it, register and come along as we need to show
NPWS that we are MANY and we VOTE.

Stand up and have your say as well.

Some points to consider for the forum (and also for commenting on the
Discussion Paper online:

- Do not judge mountain biking from unofficial mountain bike trails.

- Good design can be used to protect the environment, improve
sustainability and user conflict (it's not just about avoiding
sensitive areas as the document suggests in section 3.1.).

- We have an urgent need to get our kids back in touch with nature.
Computer games are having a serious impact on appreciation for the
outdoors. Bushwalking isn't interesting enough but cycling is.

- Conservationist groups need to think about how they can connect and
win the hearts and minds of the next generations. Locking them out will
not work long term.

Thank you for your continued support,

HSMBA
