As was first thought, lack of sponsorship caused the downfall in the latest of mtb race casualties:

"basically the lack of a title sponsor for the event led to its demise. I don't know all the exact details, but it's definitely not happening."

No prize money for the NORBA series and now no WC in the states at all, MTB in the US has taken a serious spanking this past week.

Yep

I think Australia needs to take advantage of this .. and try and organise a WC in Australia...

It's Been done Twice before - A WC and a Bloody World's

Cairns got alot out of it .. and the courses and environment was hailed one of the best locations in the world. - Stikman even said it was one of the best worlds he had attended.

I think Australia needs to get something going.

lets all chip in our pocket money and host a WC eh ? hahahaha.

that would be nice... we do after all have some of the best courses in the world (and of course our local riders would win).

i'm just waiting for redbull to step up and create XDHWC (eXtremeDownHillWorldCup) where it is nicely packaged and all tracks go for 5 minutes so they can have an advertisement at the end of every run, every one drinks Mountain dew and drives Nissan Xtrails, they'd have a commentator who has to scream words like EXTREME and HARDCORE every time a rider puts in a pedal. mass commercialisation of mountain biking is going to have to be the future or international and I’m not looking forward to it.

maybe reality DH, they put 8 riders on a trail and you vote one rider off via sms after they all do a run till you have a winner.

DH racing would be a success if all the riders were made to stay in teh one house for the season apart from leaving the house to race. They would have no information from outside the house and everything they did would be on film.... We would get MILLIONS of people watching DH then...

Now on a more serious note, To host a world cup is one of the far off/almost dreaming plans of the mtb park, We are just about to start a "real" dh track which will be 3mins+ and me of WC standard. If you are interested, anyone and everyone is invited to come out and give a hand building at the park. If you build it, you ride it for free.

thredbo is really the only oz opption at the moment.cause it would have to take alot of convincing to the uci to run a WC on a drive up track.yeah the worlds had drive up's. but times have changed and alot of those wank yanks(and some french) would complain a hella of a lot if they had to be in a smelly bus.
stupid but that the way that the uci would be looking at it.i think that it would be cool to have a world cup ona drive up track i think that the only people not complaining would be the aussies . and all the more props to us i say.

but i think that ipswich WC track should put there hand up. what do ya say.

For a WC race to be run it has to be (i've heard) within 2 hours of an international airport. Thats why Cairns was ideal but puts Thredbo out of the question. Thredbo could have one of the best tracks in the world.

I don't think we have some of the best tracks in the world, we have good tracks but nothing like what they've got overseas. People here have to get over making long tracks. They're not as much fun as something that flows. Thredbo is just stupid now, 7min is too long and they did it by putting uphill in it. Who knows why, they've got the biggest hill in Aus and they still have uphill, it's stupid. Everyone i talked to liked Fellcrag, even though it was short. It's because it flowed and felt like a real dh track.

well they could have it at lithgow. yeah it's a shuttle track but it's sick and they should race it more. if they could.and i think it's within 2 of sydney.

if they put it down the gunbarrel ski run with bits off to the side they could have a 3-4 min track with a bit of tech and mega anounts of speed to finsh it off.well this is just what i figured last time i went snowboarding.
