LIVIGNO: A THOUSANDS SIDE EVENTS

Press Release

Livigno (SO), 27th August 2005. Don't even think that the World Championships in Livigno are a mere mountain bike event! This is not the case, as the Organizing Committee has spared no effort in order to create the right spirit. They have set up a rich programme of side-events, which will make out of a sport contest an extraordinary week for those who love sport and nature.

The first medals will be awarded on 31st August, in the afternoon, for the Cross Country team relay race. A few hours afterwards the Opening Ceremony will take place. It will be a fascinating artwork, focused on the two wheels in Livigno's nature. On the first day of competitions, though, Livigno will already be flooded by the enthusiasm of hundreds of bikers, who will open this world-class week on 28th August, with the 12th edition of La Pedaleda - a 60 km long bike marathon. No mountain bike event can do without a party.

Every evening with the Party Safari you will be able to enjoy Livigno by night, by visiting the various pubs, where you will be welcomed with the typical, unique local warmth and kindness.

Do not miss the 4X-Party on Saturday night, with concerts and live music. You too will then be convinced that Livigno means fun. The North Shore Flow Show is well known among the mountain bike enthusiasts. They will fly from Canada to put up an exciting, crazy show. Dangerous Dan (a name which says it all) will perform extraordinary acrobatic movements between races. This Canadian and his "travelling mtb circus" use wooden platforms and other means to fly and dance with their bike. The expo area is now known as the Mountain Bike World Village, where hundreds of bikers are bound to be involved in races, shows, tests, music, frames, pedals and... fat tyres. The expo area will be the heart of the World Championships.

It will also be the starting point of the MTB Tours - a wide range of exciting excursions of every level through marvellous corners of Alta Valtellina. And do not miss the Test Bike: you will be able to try out a bike among the best ones, branded Kona, GT, Cannondale, Bianchi etc. Children will be able to start biking or improve their technique in the Kids Trail. The mountain bike instructors will watch over tomorrow's champions. For those who love to sweat, here is the "Two hour Spinning" scheduled on Saturday 3rd September in the afternoon.

If, while walking in the Mountain Bike World Village, somebody challenges you in a duel with Trixer, accept the confrontation. This is the very first video game for mountain bikers. You are also likely to watch the BMX Flatland Show, where a biker and his best friend - a BMX - will show what they -together- can do. The world-class spirit will be on the big screen too, with the premiere of "Alta Rezia Freeride", a film documenting the exciting bike ride between Low Engadine and Livigno performed by the world-famous Hans Rey and Thomas Frischkneckt this summer.

At the Mountain Bike World Village there will also be the Meet&Greet event, where you will be able to talk to the mountain bike stars of today and yesterday. And, finally, the Prize Award Ceremonies, will surely cause great emotion. Last - but not least - here comes the cultural part, which is typical for every event in Livigno. The American motto "we believe in bike" has inspired B.Liv'n'bike, an acronym built on three letters (Liv) which can also be found in the name of Livigno. It is an exhibition of six paintings where their authors represent the mountain bike world - each one with a particular style. An exhibition of sculptures by local artists and the Shop Window Competition will complete the long list of side events. So, to sum it up, with all these shows and exhibitions, there will be no chance at all to get bored in Livigno!
