Sutherland Short Course DISCO MTB race 27/8/11

On 27/8/11 the Sutherland Cycling club held a MTB race with a difference. Riders from 4 to 50+ raced around a circuit at night with mirror balls, smoke machines, strobes and various coloured flashing, moving lights replacing normal obstacles. The juniors raced over a still light 400m course...

    Mont 24hr

Yeah...as a MTB'er he is middle of the pack...His technical skills are not the best (I dont believe he rode pushies much as a kid...but could outrun and outfish anyone)....However, get him on a firetrail with a hill finish and a lot of people would be left for dead. BTW...I took my Monniker...

    Mont 24hr

This is a great race (I like it better than the Scott as it is more laid back). For those that use the "SPONSORS" product the Aussie Importer of GU aka Lloydie (a runner turned MTB'er who sponsors a lot of enduro type events) turned 50 last month. This isnt cycling but check him out on UTUBE...

    Sydney 24 Hour

Just noticed this and totally unrelated to the subject but couldnt let it go...as a former runner...still do a little but not much...I found running gave you a "high" much more so than riding...but (and here is the clincher) .... only when you are in the superfit zone and pushing...

    Sydney 24 Hour

Hi all Unfortunately due to illness etc I am unable to ride. However, I do have a 6 berth cabin booked which if anyone is interested can re book through the operators...imagine having a place to come and have a shower and use a toilet without queuing....It is booked for Friday and Saturday...

    Highland Fling

I did the full fling and had a few mechanicals. I was running a fairly new Shimano HG chain and new cluster. I snapped the chain 3 times...I had a SRAM link in there but must have lost it in a previous raid on the toolkit. To top it off the chain breaker spat the link breaker into the bushes so...

    Is titanium the new black?

I'm glad others have this opinion. I have a Ti Merckz Litespeed Road bike that is over 10 years old and I love it dearly. However, my LBS is pushing his carbon barrow saying Ti is for fat, old bastards and it just doesnt accelerate as fast as carbon. Can the technically gifted please...

The Push bike song - weird bikes

I thought that at the time but could not work out how they would do it and keep the rims round...guess my limited mechanical mind doesnt cope with this...so from what you are saying they would use different size spokes to create the off centre effect?

    fighting on public trails-it's a no-no

Reminds me of a group ride through the Royal Nat Park a few weeks ago. We were riding on a piece of legal MTB singletrack. This huge dog bounds across the track, misses the first rider and takes the second rider out. The second rider did a great superman impersonation and a 9.5 on the endo...

The Push bike song - weird bikes

Check out this U Tube clip I was viewing the other day http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=xsKqa3ej5sU In it you will see some early bikes from the 70's that seemed to have some weird suspension. Anyone see any of these before and know if any still exist? They would be the ultimate beach...

    scott 24hr 2008

I made one...pls bear in mind it is very GU centric so there is not a lot of other stuff in there but may give an indication. As I was racing and socialising I didnt have much time for any video so it is mostly photos. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=fKJWdqELEJ4

    The 29er thread.

oh btw..forgot to mention I had trouble finding spare 29" tubes so took the suggestion from this forum of using 26" tubes...Rode Sydney to gong on the s/w 29er and raced last night using the 26" tubes with no probs so I wont bother even worrying about 29" tubes in future.

    The 29er thread.

I bought a REDLINE 29er s/s (fully hard) a few months ago...have ridden it quite a bit on/off road but only raced it first time on a short course (400m) XC course last night. This is a real tight track in Sutherland and we do around 10 laps or so. With around 15 or more riders the racing was...

83 year old dies on sydney to the gong ride

yes..a shame to see an event marred by a death but I too would prefer to go out on a bike...but not until a lot later than my current age...I hope I can even ride a bike at 83. I did the ride on Sunday (was only 85 not 90 according to the speedo) with my 9YO and 13YO daughters...We stopped at...

    Training for enduro and XC

Hi Spudatim, These are not really meant to be intervals. In interval training you go pretty much hard trying to maintain pace similar all the way through. The workouts I was suggesting or just indicating should leave you fresh enough to do them all over again if you had to...these are...

    Training for enduro and XC

I have used H/R monitor and have also gone a long while without it....recently after back surgery I am on a comeback to riding after 3 months absence...hence need to keep the h/r down...sometimes perceived effort can be really obscure...so I mounted the h/r monitor on the handlebars and it is...

Dirtworks 100 or Highland Fling 100...which is harder

Did the fling in 06 and found that quite hard...until the OO in 08...that rates as my toughest event to date...even Anaconda Alice was easier IMHO....am doing the Nurse (entered the doctor) but with a back op 5 weeks ago dont think I will finish the Doctor....oh well...just going to sit in...
