Only bit of weirdness was that the eldest managed to perfectly time a stick that it snapped the tubeless valve off at the rim. Impressive feat as it didn't really damage anything else.
Had that happen once, was a long way from home and couldn't get the valve nut off where the thread was damaged in order to put a tube in. Thankfully I was on the fat bike which had these handy rim cut outs.

Got everything ready for a trip out this morning, but the middle child was up at 230 for a bit and the youngest at 330 and didn’t go back to sleep til gone 5 so that’s that out the window.
Maybe Monday.
Managed to get out to John Forrest National Park and have another go at the Noolbenger trails. GPS said 28km, but my last 2 rides have been 23ish so missing 5km somewhere!
Windy as hell - the 2km ride to the trail along the rail trail was shit and took up more battery than it needed to!
But, I was out, I barely saw anyone else, and the sun was shining. I was happy.
The trail desperately needs some rain though, so many exposed rocks and everything was really dusty. Lots of braking bumps and rutted out bits of the trail coming off both sides of the ridge.

Downside: I've lost a few kgs so shorts kept slipping down and hence spend more money on gear…

Thats a nice ride, bit of a de-stress after Easter. Bonus is now you can get some new kit as its 'essential'

Whenever I see a crazy sale and get NBD FOMO, but then I ride my bike and reminds me how much time and effort it takes to get a rig really dialed and which fits like a glove.

Exhibit 1: Easter trip to Mt Buller. Though it was a dust bowl, it was so good.

Or just hook into the Easter Eggs I haven't gotten to yet, before the kids do...
Order new clothes, eat easter chocolates then you get best of both worlds. If they dont fit when they turn up, blame the people that gave you the eggs and say why would you give chocolate to a chocoholic, its like giving alcohol to an alcoholic. Always blame someone else ;)

That spoke looks like it's taken a good hit. Reckon you might have hit the valve as well and that's why it's cross threaded?
Yep, spoke had an extra bend on top of the normal J but if you look closely at the valve nut on the right that's what was left of the tubeless valve stem, snapped it right off. Valve on the left is the one from the tube that I had to poke through the rim liner.

What pressure could you run tubeless? I tried to go tubeless on some 80mm rims that were similar looking and below 15 pissies they wouldn't seal. I was running 6 so tubes it was and continues to be.

We did the JF trails (both of them) maybe end of Feb and they were dusty and rutted then... We desperately need rain here. I went on a shop ride to some trails that don't exist and they were rutted, dusty, blown out and so so so damn gravelly. I don't remember the trails over here in worse condition. Stupid hot summer, record hot Feb, probably record hot March and the next week has no days below 30 :/

Yeah. Coming off the Northern side of the trail it was pretty hairy. I still love the trails - probably more so than Kalamunda at the minute tbh - but far out they need some water and trail fairy attention.
The last few times out at Kalamunda, they're in better nick but they at least have a trail crew whereas these are mostly open to the elements. So many dust devils on Monday

Granted it was now 3 days ago, but I went out and rode on single track for the first time since being in NZ back in Dec, and my first ride anywhere since end of Jan!
Was nice to be back on the bike, and I pulled up far better than I thought I would, but the difference between Rotorua and You Yangs was stark :D

So December huh. Then a ride in January. - Counts on fingers- that’s like uh 3 something months since you got back from NZ?? Is that how long I can expect this godawful post NZ depression to last?? I can’t take it anymore. Whaaaaaa….
I went for a spin at the Youis a week after I got back to turn the legs. I lasted 45min and packed it in turned around and drove home. I cried all the way home.

It’s not making it any easier as a mate has just moved to Nelson. He keeps sending me photos of stunning looking trail that he pedals to from his door. Cruel.
