Mountain Bike Safety Survey

Hey guys

I'm a student from Saint Ignatius College Adelaide as well as an avid mountain biker. As part of my year 12 Research Project I am conducting a survey on mountain biking safety, and biker's opinion on the issue.*

It would be greatly appreciated if you could take the survey below to help me with my study.*

Thank you

Be nice if you could select more than one option under "What is your main type of mountain biking?"

Some do a pretty equal mix of a few different "types"

Also for a survey on safety it doesn't take into account accident and injury rates so is really measuring perceived safety/risk

Just a few points, not trying to be critical

Hi Julian,

Welcome to the world of research :) I hope you have fun. The first job in any research project is to come up with a good question: your job is done.

The second part is to see if anyone else has done the work before: yes, but not comprehensively. You may want to check out these threads...

I published a paper on mountain bike injuries on the Cycling Research International journal (Leslie, J (2011) Rates of injuries from mountain biking: a longitudinal study of all mountain bike disciplines) - I will see if the publisher will allow me to send you the paper. It is pretty basic (because I am weak at statistics) so you shouldn't have trouble understanding it.

To get an A in your project you should complete your survey and you could compare it to mine. You should write about what was the same and what was different and why that might be. Be aware that my design of the survey will be different so it wont be exactly comparible - talk about that too.

You will blow your teacher away. And you will learn how not to have an accident.

Off to do your survey now :)

done, good luck with the project mate

i will be interested in seeing your results if you post them up here

ps you should include the option "have a first aid kit" in what do you carry in your pack given its about safety

Done though I though it very strange that you didn't list first aid kit as one of the safety items normally carried.

I've had to pull out mine a number of times to fix up fellow riders who are too lazy (or mucho) to carry their own.
