You know you're getting old when ...

YKYGO when a new car causes you to pull a thigh muscle.

In my Defence. In 12 years of driving dual-cab 4x4s, the last 6 months has been the only stretch without side steps. Toyota in their infinite cost saving ways don't put them on the base model Hilux. And it's also significantly taller than the D-Max I just returned. It all means I have to hoik my hip/leg higher than I used to.

It's been a painful few days.
Update.

Wasn't a muscle, I've since learnt I probably had a herniated disc,

Most confusing injury I've had ever. Everything's arse about. Wake up in agony, nearly unable to walk. Get on the trainer and it fades. Nurofen with breakfast and it's just a niggle by the time I'm ready to walk out the door. Work all day without any problem, sit down and it gets uncomfortable.

Should sort itself after a couple weeks with a bit of care and movement. So far so good on that.

This isnt unique to being old. I endured a bout in my late 20s. It can be a wild ride! Good luck.

I've had a few of these over the years, often accompanied by very intense muscle spasm and pain. It's worth consider whether your mattress is giving you the spinal support you need. I'm a side sleeper, and mattress and pillow positioning is pretty ket to keeping my back happy.

Thanks Gents!

There's been massive improvement even in just the last 24 hours.

It's just the first move in the morning that's trouble now.
There are exercises you can do before getting out of bed that "Warm up" the back and can aid in shortening recovery time

lay flat on you back - bring your knees up and lay them to the left keeping your back flat - when you reach the limit inhale then exhale deeply and relax your abdomen it should fall a little further down - repeat to the right - 4 or 5 sets

With your back flat on the bed kind of press your buttocks into the bed and kind of arch just the lower back area do 5 reps or so

Do these then get out of bed

Also make sure you are eating when you take anti inflammatories

i ended up int he ER in january with a back strain, had been to the GP but pain got so bad. Like CG's case, it was worst in the morning and once i'd got up and moving it was almost not there until it was again. GP had me on anti inflammatories, ER got a physio on the case and pain killers. Physio was the one who did the most to sort it.

You actually had Meccano as a child! Apparently still around today but I think most have only heard of Lego.

And back in my day Lego was only bricks, there were no wheels, no characters and no movie!

And, your first mountain bike was fully rigid.

when the government sends you a mail to tell you that they wont send the bowel cancer screening set for 2 more years. really building the anticipation there. the reason i wont get one for two years is I had a colonoscopy anyway, and before those 2 years are up I'll be due for another one (every 3 years according to the surgeon) . Will i get another mail to tell me what wont happen?

So took a tumble on Saturday as per my WDYDWYB post, was sore rest Saturday & Sunday by Monday was feeling better. Decided to drive to work last minute Tuesday morning to give things a little bit more time, go to put my socks on, which I always try to standing up to help maintain balance and core strength as I age, but I twisted slightly when putting one on and somehow strained my hip, just happens to be the same hip as my replacement.

I’ve been in agony ever since, for fucks sake bounced off the rocks with it Saturday was a tender after that but I was able to mow the lawns by the time I got home, put on a fucking sock and I’m walking lime an invalid

Sending the knackers truck around now. Youll make great glue.

That sounds like a bit of bad luck! Hopefully you haven’t pinged and panged the magic hip.

Thanks mate I’ll wait for the truck to arrive

I’m hoping a couple of extra days of rest will do the trick, was planning on taking out the hardtail this weekend maybe just another ride on the boomer scooter
