Mate, I was considering moving too haha, but with all these trails they're building in every corner of the state nowadays...Bring back @Isaakk in your hand luggage. I think he would be good in SA.
Half his clan has already emigrated here anyway, so what's another one?
Yeah, you got it good down there. Best keep quiet about it though, or you'll be infiltrated by mainlanders.Mate, I was considering moving too haha, but with all these trails they're building in every corner of the state nowadays...
There is a weight penalty to pay using a bike bag but I love my Evoc Bike Bag Pro, it's so much easiBike bags are heavy. Other than one trip to NZ where I was shocked how heavy and not much more convenient they are I use a bike box.
@ozzybmx just buy some extra kg in advance. I always buy an extra 5 or 10 kg to avoid unexpected complications and allow me to bring random shit home (like whisky and cans of coffee).
I have flown a fair bit with my bike mainly to Tassie and NZ. I have the Evoc bike bag pro and my XXL Hightower which typically weighs in around 24kg with just the bike and pedals in the bag, nothing else.Quick question.
How stringent are the airlines with the internal flight baggage allowance of 23kg when its a bike bag ?
I have only travelled with a bike twice and both were International with a mega baggage allowance.
Got a Virgin flight to Launceston to ride Derby and St Helens for 7 days coming up in less than 4 weeks.
The checked baggage is 23kg max.
My Deviate weights 14,650g as it sits, the bike bag is 9070g, this is a total of 23.7kg and I would like to put my ~400g helmet in there too.
So I'll be around 24.1kg in the bike bag.
They have said excess baggage weight is $100 extra. I can take the front tyre off and drop the pedals in to my carry on luggage which will keep me under.
Don't really want slugged $100 in each direction for 1kg over.
Cheers.

got lots of trails being built here but not enough maintaining imo.Yeah, you got it good down there. Best keep quiet about it though, or you'll be infiltrated by mainlanders.
Word on the street is that even some Canberran public servants are hearing whispers on the wind.............
I have done this with snow gear so many times! It is actually a bit of a challenge to hold I steady long enough for them to get a weight and not get suspicious.
The Evoc bag I usually borrow is about 10 yrs old and relies on the bike to hold it upright. It's floppy and has a tendency to fall over as the saggy bag moves to either side while draped over skinny saddle. My experience with an evoc bag was the opposite. I found the bag cumbersome and annoying. It just kept wanting to fall to one side, either side! I may ave packed it like a noob or weighted it unevenly except it didn't have a bias to which way it fell.
So fucking floppy! I borrowed th bag from a friend who lives about half an hour away...so I picked it up from him and caught the train home with it empty. What a fucking pain that walk home was!!!The Evoc bag I usually borrow is about 10 yrs old and relies on the bike to hold it upright. The new one I just bought has 8 plastic inserts which make the bag sit up straight and in the full shape while empty.
When I assembled it, I was like 'well this is a different beast'. It sits up on its own and holds its shape. That older bag would be flopped in a heap.So fucking floppy! Yes, mine is the regular travel bag, I looked at the Pro and the extra kilo in weight was a big down side when carrying an enduro bike.I fly with my bike a bit with an Evoc bag. Recently upgraded to the newer pro model, both weigh in heavier than advertised.
Yeah the pro has a you beaut alloy frame with a bunch of adapters so you bolt the through axles directly onto it in the base of the bag. That’d be the extra weight. When I assembled it, I was like 'well this is a different beast'. It sits up on its own and holds its shape. That older bag would be flopped in a heap.

Advertised regular was 8600g, Pro was 9600g, actual weight of my regular was 9100g.
I know a woman who specialises in flying with other people's toddlers, even on separate flights. It isn't cheap, but who wants to fly with kids?I've booked a trip to Canada to visit family and see my grandmother for her 90th while she is still healthy. I've made the most of it with some time travelling with my wife and toddler.
I'm pretty sure I've managed to plan to stay within a short pedal of some awesome trails every day including 3 days in squamish. I won't likely have any full days of riding but I hope to get out early nearly every morning for a few hours then being a slave to my wife and toddlers needs the rest of the day. Should be some awesome riding if it works out. Not sure I'm looking forward to the long flights with a toddler though
Interesting, that can't be cheap but probably works for some. I'd never consider it and actually think it will be fun with the little one but it won't be all perfect in sure.I know a woman who specialises in flying with other people's toddlers, even on separate flights.
