What are you reading? Books, articles or publications of any kind!

I had a heap of ebooks on the pad for the flights but it still feels nice to have a book in hand. In Eastbourne I found Zelazny's complete Amber series in two large volumes. So I bought that and read 80% there and on the way back. These will sit with the individual books on my larger bookcase.

Patting the Shark by Tim Baker

Documents Tim’s prostate cancer diagnosis and battle. Tim is an accomplished surf writer (I have read many of his books) and whilst his circumstances are significantly more dire than mine it is helping me somewhat to develop a management plan.

I’m enjoying it, but it’s not for everyone.

I get the checkup every year for prostate cancer. Had to have an MRI this year because my numbers jumped - but still within safe levels. (Edit - MRI was clean.)

My dad had prostate cancer - and was fully treated by the gold balls method.
A good friend has been diagnosed and not in a good way.

High in my mind this cancer.

I miss reading……. with the new GP initiative coming in for QLD I might be able to read again soon :)

I used to be a voracious reader but then puberty hit along with a healthy dose of ADHD - can’t settle to read anything now and haven’t been able to for ages - with perseverance I can get through a book but it’s a challenge and takes forever - In QLD soon GP’s are going to be allowed to diagnose and prescribe for Adult ADHD - significant time from reductions in getting to medications and significant cost savings

At the moment in Victoria it is roughly a 3 year wait and 5K exercise if you can find someone to take you on.

I have no knowledge in this area, so apologies if these ideas are dumb.

Does listening to books help at all? Also interested if you've tired Rapid Serial Visual Representation reading. It's something that some swear by and I've been meaning to try it for ages. Lastly, there are speed reading techniques. I've been trained in one format, but it's only really useful for non-fiction/academic/research material. Happy to pass the principles on to you if you think it might be helpful

So the main problem is focus of any kind - Just reading itself in any format is not stimulating enough and its impossible to maintain focus - I will find myself either re-reading the page 10 times as I go tot turn the page and realise i have taken nothing in - or you get to an important section / statement / event and realise you have no idea wtf they are talking about as you "tuned" out 5 pages ago - I can manage to pretend to read books I have previously read several times as I know what happens - Its a similar scenario with a lot of movies - If i am going to watch a movie I will more than likely choose a movie I have previously seen as I "Tune Out" in different spots and still know whats going on.

I appreciate the offer and managed to get through school skim / speed reading - Its not a timing issue though so I cant say oh my attention span is 10 mins or 8 mins its super variable.

moving pictures, vagely a disc world book from pratchett. its a funny commentary on hollywood, but not my favourite of the series

My current reading matter is a book by Ivan Randall called "The Power And The Glory". Published in the 1990s it's lacking most recent info, but it pretty well narrates the history, and increasingly divergent branches of global motorsport. Mr Rendall was involved in the writing and production of a TV show of the same name; the book is kind of a transcript of the TV script. It's a weird read, because of the way different race categories took their own tangents, but they're chaptered in parallel rather than sequence, which helps make a bit more sense....... Just a bit, not much.

Only started reading again recently, I was a bit of a bookworm when I younger LOTR, the Hobbit, The Belgarid(?) series etc, in the last 18 months I started reading the Grace series by Peter James, which is now a TV series, British police drama style stuff but after the 15 books my daughter had got me, I needed a change. So my daughter got me a few of the Sigma series of books by James Rollins for Father’s Day, which is a bit like Indiana Jones meets the Bourne Supremacy, the stories are all fictional but the science, locations, artefacts, etc are based in fact, so makes for an interesting read, currently on the second book in the series, found it’s a great way to wind down after a shitty day at work.

You were close. Just missed the "a" in Belgariad.

Probably still my all time favourite series (along with the Mallorean) as it was what got me into reading back in Yr. 8
