Warburton trail updates

Fuck just realised I posted in the completely wrong thread.
Pretty lame attempt at a thread derailment

Trail info please regulars.

I’ve not ridden stage two so have no idea on the trails. Wanting to take my 11year old to do shuttles. She can ride some black trails at the youis but she’s not ridden for a while so would be a bit rusty.
What’s a couple good laps to do? She’s pretty fit and strong but I’m guessing multiple laps top to bottom would be pretty tiring. Half mountain laps? Half day? Full day shuttles?

Thoughts?

I think you would break an 11yo riding up stage 2 at all.
As for shuttles. The Green from the top is great, particularly as a warm up. Mad max is a pretty hectic jump trail, but even my less jump inclined friends find it super fun. Caption Crayfish would be perfect if its dry enough, gets slick otherwise. All the Blacks are flowy and any really big features are easily avoided. If she is doing youies black she'll have no worries getting all the way down.
All the descents are massive compared to anything else local, so be prepared for a break at some of the junctions on the way down. I would lap the top section then do a run down into warby or Wesburn to finish.

Yeah I didn’t mean I was going to do any ride up laps. Just shuttles. I did pedal laps of the old DH trails and it’s a long long slog.
Doing a bit of investigating seems like 3 owls into Warbutron is a good warm up then she’d froth Mad max. She’s pedalled 30km at Creswick so she’ll be fine with the long descents with breaks. I’ll take lotsa snakes.

Getting to that time of year where you might see lots of snakes as well, that will give a good energy boost

I see that there's a few disgruntled people following this announcement.

We were doing shuttles Saturday and Sunday and from the stories the drivers were telling us it sounded like a wise move. Apparently been a lot of near misses recently (mostly P platers adjusting descending vehicle speed to redline) and a bus came off the road a couple of weeks ago. Was busy enough with just the shuttles, private vehicles would've been chaos.

Can imagine the reaction though "THE ROADS I NEVER USE HAVE BEEN BLOCKED WHERE IS THE NEAREST COMMENT SECTION"
What are the wait times for shuttles like?
They leave on the hour from town or every half an hour from (I think) the Cemetry Junction / bottom of Yankee Jim. We were taking around 30 minutes for a top to bottom run (with time allowed for stops, people catching up, bullshitting etc.) so that extra time just gives you a bit in town to refill water bottles, get snacks etc.

I remember when they tried to close the shuttle road at Derby but couldn't enforce it, as it was already a public road and the council didn't own the unsealed part.
Unfortunately it's the few dickheads that drive like idiots that ruin it for everyone.

Look at the shuttle road in Derby up to Black Stump. Pretty sure they haven't allowed people to ride up it since the start.

I've seen private vehicles use it but it's precarious at best when you have inexperienced drivers taking large vehicles up there, some with hitch mounts wider than their car etc. They usually don't have radios, and don't know how to safely pass or share the narrow sections of road.

There is enough exposure that it doesn't take much for someone to end up in the ditch or completely rolling their vehicle.

Banning non sanctioned traffic during peak periods makes sense.

As an aside, it was getting pretty dusty on the road by the Sunday, to the point that anyone trying to ride up it probably wasn't having a good time. Given it's only September by Summer it's likely going to be pretty bad.

Plus it's $15 a run at most, just pay a shuttle given where fuel prices are going it's probably going to be cheaper than paying for fuel to do runs in your lifted Hilux anyway.

Has anyone been out since the rain last week? How are the trails holding up?

Looking at heading out this weekend but not keen for another slip and slide mud fest like last time.
