Warburton trail updates

Got to sample some with the trail crew the other week, The flow frothers are gonna love it. The old school guys not so much. The black from top of mount bride was fun, lots of off cambers with late catch berms.
FFS I thought the new trails up near the old pirates was meant to be so the old school guys didn’t have anything to whinge about. There’s heaps of rock and feature to utilise compared to the current sections.

Fuck flow and the EEB it rode in on.

Embrace the EEB.
The future is bright, the future is SURRON.
😍 😍 😍

@Mattyp will the next 55km have a similar ratio of climbing/traversing to descending?

Or is there more DH focus as presumably they open shuttles up as well (their teaser is making a big point of the shuttle rig)

Its a decent climb up to the old OG trails

I believe there will be a council run shuttle bus.
But there's nothing stopping you from self shuttling up mount bride Rd as it's a public road. They are also cutting in a 7km climb to the top mount bride trailhead. I think the current climb up to mount little Joe is around 6km, So fairly similar.

@Mattyp - are the trails likely to stay flow, or will they become a bit more technical as they wear in? (ie: is there visible rock at/near the surface, or is it just dirt for days?)

(IME) A lot of trails are super smooth when they're built, but it's often 6 months down the track their lasting characteristics start to show through... I suppose it'll depend mostly on what's planned for ongoing trail maintenance.

Usually flow trails will always stay flow trails. They just get degraded with braking bumps and lack of maintenance. That doesn’t make it technical to ride. Just shit.

Agreed, but hence the question about the make-up of the sub-surface.

I heard through someone involved in the build , they were hoping in this stage to find more rock up there they could incorporate into the trails , but it hasn’t really happened.it’s all dirt . There is optimism the next stage, the lala falls area will be more rocky .

Actually, I’ve heard that multiple times now

They definitely sold it as that to locals. But make no mistake about it, it's all flow trails.
I actually had a personal conversation with Glen Jacobs , (he’s probably had a million similar conversations so he won’t remember me )

I said there is a concern with some of the locals it’s going to be all dumbed down , you’ve probably seen the stuff they have built up here and are used to riding,

He answered with an answer that sounded well rehearsed to these type of questions , he said there will be something here for all levels of riding.

They don't make money building hand built trails, so I'd take that with a grain of salt

I'd say he meant, green, blue and black flow. Additionally probably a "Pro" jump line. At the end of the day they are building tracks for the council, they can't build the sort of stuff you find on rogues. Im sure the locals already have new stuff in the works. All these climbing trails they are putting in just opens up access to new parts of the hill

Flattening the old tracks was expected, but I was really really really hoping they wouldn't. I was even told that they wouldn't by some marketing dickhead on the opening weekend.
I had high hopes they wouldn't.
Guess I was wrong, not surprised because I get told that a bit. Haha.
So, fuck you world trail and everyone who works for that shit show.

Yeah I'm a grumpy old man who helped Matt dig those trails, one of many.

The stuff they built for Nannup here in WA was built for council and that has some great tech in it. Even the state government stuff they built in the national park at Dwellingup has some very technical stuff that resulted in carnage from those that attempted it in the wet in a downhill race.

pfft.. how is building only flow trails cater for all levels of riding?

Then again the skill of some riders going down the slightly harder stuff has been shocking. Went there last weekend and a regular said there has been choppers and ambos pulling riders out from the rock features at the bottom black trails. They are not even that difficult...

Ridden there twice now, not impressed so far. Never have been overly impressed with World Trail stuff, they're the weakest out of the lot. Creswick the destination of choice for me now.
