The stupid questions thread.

Seems excessive to me (and dont remember them being that sloppy when I installed it 3yrs ago), but that might just be my engineering brain having a fit

Who designs crap like this?!

An engineer can design something, but it takes a mechanic to make it work.
I wish I knew some competent mechanics. I am sure they exist, I just have not come across many.
I have had enough of working on my own cars, and would like to just give them to someone else to service, I just don't trust mechanics. The things that mechanics have done to my cars is just ridiculous. Like having two goes at machining the discs, and only making the braking shudder worse. It turns out they did not clean the dirt of the face of the discs, so they machined them out of true. I then had to replace the discs as they machined them below the allowable limit. I paid to have a major service done on my Patrol. When I got the car back the front bearings were so loose I could see them wobble side to side when I pushed them. I took the car back and complained, and they said I was wrong, they had a special tool to measure bearing preload. I gave up and fixed it myself. Needless to say I have never gone back there. The lists goes on and on. Mechanics have stuffed up far more things on my cars than I have ever done. One of these days I will try another independent mechanic and see how it goes.

engineers have been known as "Educated Morons".

It's two sides of the same coin. Engineers will learn the theory and do all the crap in cad. Mecs will learn by experience and not know the reasoning behind design choices. Best engineers/mechanics can do both.

Mecs can learn theory in the background and engineers can actually get their hands on the tools to see how it all works in reality. The real issue a lot of the time is bean counters. Half the problems in engineering design are from bean counting exercises.

Giant haha
As for my case, this is a piss poor excuse of a dsign from apparently the biggest bike manufcturing company in the world selling probably one of their most popular mtb lineups. Like seriously, I honestly many people had to actually look at the cad files, renders , moulds and carbon frames and approve this shit. Going to point the finger at bean counters here.
