Gli.net AX1800 has Openwrt out of the box. The latest version of this is just incredible, you can specify Openvpn tunnels for individual ip or Mac addresses.

TP-Link have been caught out being very naughty boys and sending packets back to China. You can upgrade some TP-Link to Openwrt but that screws your warranty.

Alright @Oddjob you got me into this now you need to help get me out of it!

Got the gil.net sounded good and prime got it delivered in 24hrs :D

But router, no modem, should have read the description closer DOH!

Can't even access the nighthawk to bridge it (no idea why just can't get access to it) so now I need a modem.

Can't be assed spending my weekend fighting with this lot so what adsl2 modem should I buy?

Do you have ADSL or NBN? Almost no one has ADSL now. Modem should look like this.

Confirm this first and then I can try and get you going.

Ok. Are you with Spintel or Iinet?

1. Plug your nighthawk modem back in and power it up. Connect with your phone or PC using wifi if you can.

2. Download the latest bios for the Gl.inet router from Gl.inet save to a USB stick.

3. Log into http://www.routerlogin.com. This will bring you to the Netgear modems setting login page. Login. If you can't login reset the modem to factory settings using the manual https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...0QFnoECB8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw3Jo4oB_QwWYaEBN8FQgqqE

If you had to reset. Login into the settings and setup your modem for your internet service provider. According to Spintel and iiNet, you can use this modem for NBN. Check your isp's website for instructions.

4. Login to modem and change to bridge or modem only mode. https://kb.netgear.com/29327/How-to-set-D6220-D7000-to-pure-bridge-or-DSL-modem

5. Plug in Gl.inet router to modem with ethernet cable and turn on. Login to router as per manual via wifi. Update bios with USB stick.

6. Login to router following update. Change admin password. Setup wifi, firewall, dhcp, etc as per preferences. See YT for tutorials or check out the info at https://openwrt.org/docs/start.

Probably FTTN NBN.

The D7000 has a reset 'hole', push a pin or something through it and it will revert to factory settings, then it will be Admin/Admin IIRC for the login and password.

If you setup the D7000 modem using a laptop through the wifi connection, then connect the router and set the D7000 as 'modem only', then wired or wifi connect your home PC and it should be working.

As soon as you connect your home PC through the router, typing your IP for modem or router login will go to the router.

Thanks for the tutorial, being genuine no sarcasm.

We are with Aussie broadband and unfortunately non of the above works, tried it all already.

The best I can work out is the nighthawk has the firewall on or it's been compromised because I can't even get to the log in screen.

Turning the internet off for hours while I mess with this is a non-starter in my house so will probably just try and find a modem for the router.

Just reset it as per the manual and that should let you log in via wifi. Then set the Netgear up as per the webpage https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/internet/byo-router-settings-nbn-guide/ then put it into bridge mode.

If you must get a modem check what the recommended ones are from Aussie Broadband.

@Litenbror if the plug is VDSL / Transact I think the modem is different to the NBN one.

No, I don’t know what the solution is…

If you need a cheap FTTN modem the Telstra smart modem Gen 1 (DJA0230) work well and can be picked up pretty cheaply $20-30. I was getting solid 100/40 through one with a little bit of luck from node lotto jackpot until recently when we got the option to switch to FTTP for free.

Alright got the modem and router sorted, open sessions that we're stopping my connection apparently???

So having fixed that I went for a ride and promptly cracked my rear rim  this is why I can't have nice things.

Now I need a 29er rim, preferably alloy, with an ERD of 590. Any ideas most I'm seeing are about 600.
