Nerds,

Seeing as a few of you are clued in on parts and where to get them, I'd like to max out the RAM on a PC.

Currently has 32GB, from vague reading it seems like 128gb is maximum for the computer I have. But I could be wrong.

I can see four slots for what I assume are the rams, two have something in them although installed with a gap in between?

If I want to go to 128 I guess I need to ditch what I have and go with four new rams?

Is that the kind of thing I need? Googling says Corsair are good, assume it can be found cheaper.

Alternately can I keep what I have and add these? Some things I've read seem to suggest that everything needs to match.

Thanks

Chad

Given that it's a HP tower I would try and match the brand of the ram that's already in there. It's probably Micron. Maybe pull the ram out and get a picture.

It's a bit tight in there so nervous I'll break something pulling them out for a quick look, but they have HP and Samsung on them

Ok
1) What do you think you are going to do with 128GB ram? (unless you want to open 2 versions of Chrome :) )
2) You have 4 DIMM Slots (Ram Modules) Currently you have 32Gbs in 2 X 16Gb Sticks
3) The motherboard and CPU use Dual Channel Ram that's why there is 1 stick in each channel you have 2 channels
4) Windows 10 Home can support 128GB ram - Windows 10 Pro can support 2TB of ram
So ideally you want to have either 2 or 4 sticks - Utilising the ram you currently have could cause an issue depending on if it is double sided or single sided ram sometimes they dont play nice - The speed of the ram does not matter as much as it will just run to lowest speed anyway.

So you could buy 2 more sticks and would probably be right - But I would probably buy new ram and just use that so no possible issues
Turn the computer off before removing or adding ram
Those little white tabs at the edge of the ram pop open (try it on the empty slots) - When you press them on the full slot it ejects the ram - When you put the ram in it only goes one way (there is a divider on the gold fingers so will only go one way)and you push it in until it clicks in

I have a lot of browser tabs open playing videos. Sometime loads of little windows pop up with colourful things happening and more videos? More RAM will help me keep abreast of the situation?

It is Windows Pro - but something I read said the motherboard or CPU or something was limited, and you needed a Xeon or Ryzen to go more. I'm not really sure about all this though. 128 will do if a mix and match 96 is not a good idea.

The speed is the 2667, is that right? I'm assuming it came with the fastest type the computer will allow?

If buying all-new for safety's sake, who would you recommend? I'd need prompt and reliable delivery, don't massively want to support Amazon but they do this the best.

Yeah speed is 2666 - Even faster ram is actually 2666 just been tested to run faster - the motherboard may not allow you to run faster (I don't know how locked down the BIOS is) so just stick with 2666 (Will be a freckle cheaper anyway)

You could buy 1 kit plug it in if it works your set - If it doesn't go and order another set

PC Case Gear is good

Computer Alliance is good

Scorptec is normally ok

This is more expensive than the previous options. Will my pooper support the higher speed?

The ram will run from 2666 up to that speed - If you send me the actual model number of your computer I can check bios settings maybe and see if it will run faster - All ram is actually 2666 until you enable XMP profiles in bios or manually over clock it - It is just rated to run faster at 3600MHZ - And that is a lot of money for pretty

Thats a serious amount of RAM

I would match your current RAM and add 2 more in the 2 vacant slots. Surely 64GB would be plenty.

Nothing like a fresh install to speed a computer up... and shut down all the unnecessary shit that starts with Windows.

Push the little white tab down and the RAM module will pop out. Make sure and click it back in soundly or strange black magic things can happen.

Porn hub has a serious memory leak (among other fluids) - he will need the 128GB or risk closing down some tabs

Well the little giggybites all got in there after a bit of shoving. Minor panic when it wouldn't start up at all, then showed a threatening screen...

Only question is, why are they at a lower speed 2133 than the old ones where this screen said 2667?

The box says they are 3200.

All ram is 2133mhz - Some ram is able to run at a higher speed - To enable this speed you will need to change settings in bios - With out knowing your bios it is normally turning on XMP profile - Your computer will most likely have reset the bios when it didn't post due to an expectaion change when you had more ram. The reset will remove any of the fastening features.
