The gaming thread

What am I looking at?
Commander Keen 4 (ergo my lame pun... :p)

A childhood favourite for me. That's the view when you're out roaming the world between levels. The levels are classic side-scroller, but with the option to jump, shoot (ray gun stun), pogo stick (big jump but slowed the direction input), grab onto ledges and haul yourself up, and somewhat steer direction while in the air - it's very playable compared to other games of the era. I got the "complete" (not actually complete) playable set off GoG (Good old Games). Keen 1-3 have different games mechanics and are a lot more stuffy to play, but Keen 4, 5 and 6 were all matching in controls/playability but with evolving stories in different settings. Some of the best uses of Midi backing music in any early games IMO too (and the music changes in most levels to set/match the mood). Plus, a secret/hidden language, secret/hidden tunnels, some platforms you can only stand/bounce on for a moment before they disappear forever, etc... there's a lot of variation throughout the levels.

This is a moderate level, made to look easy as the player doesn't die in one of the heap of different ways you can die (don't touch the yellow slugs, don't stand in their slimy poop, don't touch the lava, don't let the bat touch you while in flight, watch out for the little green dots thats expand when you're next to them and bite/kill you, etc... But there's a bunch of different enemies across other levels. 4, 5 and 6 are definitely worth a shot if you like retro games (5 has the best music IIRC), but skip 1-3 IMO as they're a bit wooden to play and lack the secret passages and manoeuvrability of the Keen himself.

[EDIT: If you're going to give it a play, I recommend juggling the standard control layout so Shoot = Ctrl, Jump = Alt, and Pogo = Spacebar. Personal preference though... 👍]

I'm going to have to get that too!

Absolute classic.

downloaded Dead Island 2 (via PS +) a couple of weeks back.
Getting into it. one of my zombie slayers glitched a quest late in the game @ level 28. no fix, no old save accessible on console, AFAIK. Fuuuuuuuu...
Anyways, still liked the gameplay, so now lvl 10 with another slayer character. 😂

decided to grab iracing for a month and see if is till like it. its a lot of fun, well managed and lots of races. quite a bit of waiting around for the next race session and 50/50 chance you'll be wiped out by turn 3 even if you are cautious. Start at the back and crawl past the turn one carnage and some idiot will still keep their foot flat when off the track or decide to take revenge on the world at the next hairpin.

but it does just work. base setups for cars and wheels work, not requiring google and patience on your wheel settings. might give up my old account and its few cars and tracks for the 50% new account discount. should have the new wheel by then, ordered a GT wheel, moza ks pro

I tried Iracing for a while and had those same problems @tubby74 I loved using some of the cars on older circuits but the waiting killed me.
I'm keen to hear your thoughts on the Moza wheel, they look great.

i do have a higher class licence from my old account so could get out of rookies. guess i should poke about and find what series i dont have to spend $200 extra n to get a regular run. first race back was the GR86 at zandvcort, that was a lot of fun

It shits me that Sony charges an exorbitant amount for their licencing and this closes off access to brands like PXN and Moza :(

I'm saving for a Logitech RS50 and pedals, probably by 2028!

Finished Avowed last week. It was ok overall, I think if you weren't already a Pillars of Eternity fan, that it would probably come across a bit generic.

Gone back to play through PoE again - the turn-based mode added for the 10 year anniversary made it out of beta this week. I really like the original RTWP but will give TB a spin too.
