Yup, not a job I'd want to be doing.

My wife works in Defence recruiting. Across the ADF they are missing recruiting targets by a large margin which grows each quarter.
The submariner role misses by the largest amount each time and has for decades. These nuc boats need larger crews than the Collins, f-knows where the crew are coming from, now or in the future
Chinese imports?

Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes

The nuc boats would be significantly bigger and more comfortable.

But given the adverse conditions and the highly technical nature of the job, submariner should be one of the more highly paid jobs in the country. But guess what...

We already are. Solar is nuclear.

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees

The sun is hot
The sun is not
A place where we could live
But here on Earth there'd be no light
Without the light it gives

We need its light
We need its heat
The sunlight that we see
The sunlight comes from our own sun's atomic energy

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees

The sun is hot
(The sun is so hot that everything on it is a gas
Aluminum, copper, iron, and many others.)
The sun is warm
(If the sun were hollow, a million Earths would fit inside.
And yet, it is only a middle-sized star.)
The sun is far away
(about 93 million miles away, and that's why it looks so small)
But even when it's out of sight
The sun shines night and day

We need its heat
We need its light
The sunlight that we see
The sunlight comes from our own sun's atomic energy

(Spoken)
Scientists have found that the sun is a huge atom-smashing machine.
The heat and light of the sun are caused by nuclear reactions between hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, and helium.

(Singing)
The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees

Just watched the rest of the recent Paul Keating interview, if they made one of those political cartoons of it, he would be holding a spade and smashing it in the face of journalists with a heap of them dead and battered in the background. If they're the quality of journalists we have these days it's no wonder we're fucked.

The national press club one? Haven't had a chance to watch it yet but sounds like it's worth it.
