Yeah that is all likely true but a fracturing away from the two party system is not only likely inevitable (we're already seeing it in the UK and nfi how the GOP survives post Trump cultism), but if it moves us to European style multi-party coalitions that'll probably ultimately be okay? Unstable sure, but probably more representative than what either major party can manage now. Maybe.
As you say the only caveat to all this is the sheer volume of people who have shunned mainstream media and now get their "news" exclusively via social media or platforms where there is zero accountability and users are just being fed algorithmic slop that never contradicts their opinions.

I've seen a similar thing in local council. There are and increasing number of councillor candidates that are simply there to "stick it to the man" or have a grip with council and just want to be a pain in the arse. They get in because there now are enough uneducated idiots that also don't have a clue how the world works that vote for them.
There is a guy in a neighbouring council that was a Facebook warrior who ended up getting elected as a councillor, who hasn't a clue how a council works. He continually calls out the council for issues that have nothing to do with council, he once asked the council to ban the migrant workers from the CBD because he seen the bus the were travelling in, driving too fast. A council can't ban an ethnic group for and issue that is a Police matter in regard to the driver. He also wanted to move all the homeless out to the country somewhere so you didn't have to deal with them when walking around town.
Yet, he has a passionate group of supporter, who are all just as dumb and ignorant as he is, so he'll probably get in again.

We have Louise Elliot in Hobart council... A genuinely gross person, got suspended for making personal threats to the family of another councilor. Got cheered on by a large fan base of ignorant arseholes that are very common here... All super classy.
The council thing is a cooker issue - often people beyond even ON level crazy. They discovered that it's relatively easy to nominate yourself and get voted into a local council by your cooker mates because so few people actually get involved in council politics, which makes it surprisingly easy.
A big focus seems to be banning LGBT books/events in libraries, but you can be sure they'll be trying to insert any grievance they can. Disrupting council meetings with endless dumb questions and harassment is another big focus.

That's just happening right now in China - there are literally concentration camps and state-run slavery prisons in China. If you don't like what happened to the Jews in pre-WWII Germany, then you won't like what is happening in China today. And that's only the stuff that I pull from the top of my head.
There is nothing even close to that in the US today. The closest I can come to that is the family separation stuff at the border (which is fucking horrible). However, in the US, the media can document it, people can protest against it, lawyers can take it to court without the Government throwing them in black prisons or simply just killing them like what occurs in China.

The perception of the USA must really be in the toilet if people are starting to think that China under the CCP is a viable alternative for regional hegemony.

The CCP also have a pretty strong Trumpian habit of throwing massive diplomatic tantrums the moment anyone says anything they don't like as well. Look how they treated us when we politely asked for an enquiry into the COVID-19 outbreak.
