This is about right wing media outlet Skynews and the kind of misleading "news" they present. The timing here is interesting, because these rises were nearly a year ago, so why this revelation now? It may have been calculated to help stir up anger against the Government and whip up support for One Notion.

Sky News host James Macpherson says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has “quietly collected” a $57k pay rise.
Checking these facts; this amount of $57,000 appears to be incorrect, or at best misleading. The fact is on
1st July 2025, yes 2025, 11 months ago, ALL Federal politicians received a 2.4% payrise which gave the PM an increase from $607,471-a-year to $622,050, that is only $14.5K, still generous but nothing like $57K.
It's possible the PM's electorate allowance which would be $57K was mistaken somehow as the amount of the increase. I think it's also possible it was no mistake at all.
EDIT: this $57K is an accumulation of all increases over the 4 years (Albanese sworn in as PM on 23 May 2022).
At the same time the
opposition leader, Sussan Ley, received an increase of $10,374 to $442,643.
Though, for the same 4 year period that's up from $392,066 to $442,643 and an increase of $50,577. Not bad remuneration for an opposition leader whose performance isn't scrutinised anywhere near as much and does not have much expectation placed upon them. Just as an exercise though, compare Sussan Ley's performance with Angus Taylor's. It might be fair to say she was doing some constructive work trying to rebuild the opposition and the Liberal Party. Taylor hasn't done anything constructive, it has been all negative so far IMHO. He's just continuing with the far right's wet dream.

Renumeration Tribunal sets 2.4 per cent pay rise for MPs, Anthony Albanese to pocket extra $14.5k
Politicians are set to increase their annual salary by thousands from July 1, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pocketing a boost of nearly $15,000.
Anthony Albanese and other politicians are set for a plumped-up pay packed in just weeks, with the Prime Minister’s salary jumping from about $607,471-a-year to $622,050.
Politicians, department secretaries and other senior public servants will get a 2.4 per cent pay rise from July 1, following the determination of the 2025 Review of Remuneration for Holders of Public Office.
The statement issued by the Remuneration Tribunal on Wednesday noted that the total remuneration increases given in the past year have been “relatively modest,” totalling 18.65 per cent since 2016.
While the 2.4 per cent pay bump matched inflation, it is under the 3.4 per cent wage-price index for the public sector, and less than the 3.4 per cent and 4 per cent increases awarded by the Tribunal in 2024 and 2023 after salaries stalled during the Covid pandemic.
“In contrast, remuneration increases more generally in the public and private sectors (based on overall March Wage Price Index data from 2016-2025) equate to 25.6 per cent,” the statement said.
The 2.4 per cent boost was also lower than the Fair Work Commission’s Annual Wage Review which determined a 3.5 per cent above-inflation increase to the minimum wage and Australians on modern award wages.
A backbencher will see their salary increase from about $233,660 to $239,267, while Sussan Ley will get a boost of $10,374 to $442,643.
Jim Chalmers’ annual pay will be boosted to $448,625, a bump of $10,514 while cabinet ministers will receive an uplift of $4065 to $412,735.
Politicians are also given an electorate allowance which covers expenses incurred to “provide services to their constituents” such as travelling, in additional to a private plated vehicle.
Senators get a flat rate of $39,700 per year, while MPs are given between $39,700 to $57,100 depending on the size of their electorate.

Labor party and union figures have attempted to contrast the prime minister's pay packet with stagnant wage growth for low-income earners, claiming Scott Morrison's salary has swelled from $140,000 to $550,000 over a decade.
The figures are broadly accurate. Between July 2011 and March 2012, Mr Morrison earned $140,910, although by May 2012 - a decade ago to the month of the claim - this had increased to $231,250 following a large pay rise for federal politicians and the introduction of extra pay for shadow ministers.
The claim followed the publication of a news.com.au article1 on May 12 that said: "Mr Morrison's annual salary has jumped from $140,000, when he was a backbencher, to $550,000, as prime minister, in the last decade alone".

Scott Morrison has earned an $11,000-a-year pay rise on the same day some of Australia’s lowest-paid workers had their penalty rates cut. But there’s even better news for the Prime Minister if his tax cut package gets the Senate’s approval. Mr Morrison stands to double his money and secure an $11,000-a-year tax cut in 2024 if he’s still in the top job.
The independent remuneration tribunal announced a 2 per cent increase to all MPs’ pay on Thursday. The Prime Minister has secured three pay rises in just a year, taking his annual salary to $549,229 annually. His total annual pay increase since July 1, 2018, including becoming PM, is $141,229. For Mr Morrison, the 2 per cent pay bump will deliver an immediate salary increase of $10,769 on July 1.
Mr Morrison secured a $12,409 wage rise as Treasurer in July, bringing his salary to $420,409. But a month later, after Malcolm Turnbull was dumped as PM, Mr Morrison grabbed the top job and his salary jumped on August 24.
ACTU assistant secretary Liam O’Brien pointed out that the Prime Minister’s latest pay increase came on the same day that retail workers faced further penalty rate cuts.

Federal MPs have been granted a 2 per cent pay rise from July 1, just as 700,000 retail and hospitality workers are set to have their penalty rates cut.
The independent Remuneration Tribunal said in its decision - which relates to all public offices in its jurisdiction including federal judges and public servants - it had taken into account economic restraint, lower wage growth more broadly and the government's public sector workplace bargaining policy.
"The tribunal notes that various indicators predict that wage growth is expected to increase gradually, lagging economic growth," it said on Thursday.
"Wage growth has increased modestly over the past year, with reliable measures indicating private sector wage growth is now equalling or outpacing the public sector."
Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to receive a bump of just over $10,000 a year on top of his current $538,460. At present, MPs and senators get a base annual salary of $207,100.
United Voice secretary Jo-anne Schofield said workers in the hospitality industry could lose as much as $2000 a year when further penalty rate cuts come into force on July 1.
"Working people need jobs that are secure and pay them fairly - not more cuts that stop them from being able to pay for life's essentials," she said in a statement.
The average hospitality worker earns $20.91 an hour for weekday shifts. The next 10 percentage point penalty rate transition in the new financial year will mean weekend hospitality workers will have lost $40 a week.

To think I thought somewhat benevolently of Skynews because they sponsored a great cycling team of Team Sky which did a power of good for Britich cycling providing the resources for the TDF victories of Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2012, Chris Froome in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and Gerraint Thomas in 2018. How mistaken I was.
The truth be known, now that I found it, Skynews in Britain (owned by Comcast and is fact based news) is completely different to Skynews in Australia which is owned by News Corp. Another insidious Murdoch creation.
I always knew Skynews Australia is not be trusted I just had not connected all the dots back to the Chairman Emeritus.
There are more dots but it's scary to think about. The Murdochs, Rinehart, all with a common goal.
