I still remember some bloke crying and crapping on about the Yowie race at the Youies, how the guy who use to dress in a Gillie suit trail side, scared him and he said it cost him his race. Then someone on here gave him what for, as they seen the results and he was nowhere near getting a place, let alone win, I think he thought he was some marathon champion or some crap.
I can’t remember his user name, for some reason it seemed to remind of “Le Coq” or something similar, but my memory is not the most reliable thing around these days.
 
All this talk about Norman is blowing my mind, and reading through that old thread is fucking wild!

As I mentioned before. Norman was my ex-fiance's cousin. I got Norman out to a BMU night ride at Loftus in... 2009? I lent him a bike (or someone lent him a bike) and it was his first time mountain biking. We were only about 3km in and he crashed to the ground with a leg cramp. Me being the clown that I am I got some shots to mark the occasion.

I broke up with my ex-finance in 2011 and started ZEN Garage in Leichhardt (which consumed me) and never saw Norman again (but did run into him at Centennial Park last year). I had no idea he was posting so much on RB (I think I stopped posting when it was still Farkin?). I vaguely remember being invited on to a whatsapp group of baller Asian cyclists many years ago. Norman was in the group and I had a fight with him over something. I just didn't need that shit in my life so I left the group.

Anyways... blows me away as he was AOK when he was a kid (and totally AOK when I ran into him at Centennial Park on the roadies), and I had no idea he was contributing to these forums let alone how many waves he made here (oh and he had a bike shop?!!!).

Moving right along!

Fucking gold! What a beautiful trip down memory lane. At first I thought seeing them both in the same action packed thread was the best thing, but by the end the best thing was remembering some of the other users in that thread and their time with us on farkin.

I sold Dragan a large Cannondale Rize frame. When he picked it up there is no way he could ride a large. Guy is/was huge. Anyway his wife is 184cm tall and it was for her. We spent about half an hour talking shit and he seemed a decent bloke. Then this happened.

You freshies missed some gold. I was not long part of the forum when this shit was blowing up and I had spent a good number of years resisting my friends' encouragement to join because the place seemed filled with old know it all dickheads (a true statement now as much as then!) that rode xc...which this all seemed to prove. To think of all the true old gold from the farken era...

It was early in my first time here as well and getting to witness the gradual melt down of Chops in real time was quite the education and the entertainment. And, by golly, did some of our past cohort have some of the driest forum lines on the internet or what?
 
My favourite Chops moment was when he posted a weight of a bike I had tyat #1 rode and the weight was about 2kg less than mine. Usual front wheel on a block of wood out of pic bullshit. His spec was better but only one level so not 2kg. I called him out and he posted another pic showing the same weight and front wheel high in the air. Rear wheel was off the pic stage left. Yeah ok.

Yeah seemed to be the vibe; no dramas, did a lot of trades with other users with no issues, had some pretty cool bike builds too. Then overnight decided to do the dodgiest of dodgies.

His SB-66 thread was a miasma of shit. Only fun part of trawling through that is watching everyone else's contributions descending from enthusiastic support to blunt force ribbing. I think it got to over 100 pages and was mostly weight weenie obsessiveness coupled with mad baller mtb sessions on his driveway.
