Shorts - The struggle is real

Bit like the Specialized SWAT bibs, just not as expensive.
I just keep my phone and keys in my short pockets.

I recently stumbled across these

https://www.bikebug.com/100-revenant-bib-liner-black/

Ive been looking at ways to carry less on the bike as i usually ride with a hip pack to hold my phone/repair kit/car keys (bidon, tube and c02s are on the frame).

My aim was not to carry a hip pack at all, so now i can fit my phone / repair kit / car keys in the bib pockets. I simply wear my usual baggy mtb shorts (shell only) and jersey over the bibs, padding on the bib liner is pretty decent.

Handy for those who need pockets but dont want to be in lycra or carry a hip pack.

High five for suggesting this! I much prefer riding the roadie in my baggies, and this works great for carrying everything

Question from the non-bib wearer. How do you take a piss when wearing bibs? Does the front stretch down enough or do you have to take your jersey off then slip the braces off your shoulders?

Depends, any bibs that are race-cut/pro-fit etc tend to have a low-ish front that will stretch a bit so you can even pee on the move.
many bibs will stretch enough, without having to take your (non-zip front, I assume) jersey off.

You just pee in them, it's part of the allure.
in that case, load up on asparagus for lunch, and wear the white bibs for the commute home.

Fun fact, Tadej Pogacar had a visible shit stain - around the area of his butthole - on his pink Giro D'Italia leader's race suit in last year's Giro. The camera moto was directly behind him. 😬 🤣
Never a good look. ALWAYS wear black bibshorts.

@Stredda back in the day, road bibs used to act as a wind block on your stomach, they were very high cut.
You can get more modern and MTB specific ones where the front is quite low and it's not really different to whipping down your trackies.

the Canyon ones I've got are a pain in the jacksie. You definitely have to take jersey off, pull straps down & unzip the front to take a leak.

having said that, they're super comfy so I take the rough with the smooth

I thought the whole purpose of the bible was to squish your gut in and create a facade of being less fat?

What? You dont squeeze a bible down the front of your bib to hold your gut in? Or are we to believe that a miracle has given you washboard abs?

Doesn’t yours hang low enough just to pull the leg up a little?

Taking a whizz isn’t the issue, it’s when you need a crap in a hurry, that’s when shit gets real!

Tom DuMoulin gives a master class in how to take a poo in the middle of a crucial grand tour stage.

**NB: doesn't work for today's modern one-piece road race suits. Aero is not quite everything.

I’ve always wondered what the deal is with bibs. I don’t use padded chamois underliners either so wondering what the deal is?
In summer I like to have my jersey untucked to allow better airflow so the idea of a bib is a bit weird to me in that respect. And a bit restrictive when you need a quick one trailside.
Can someone enlighten me?

Padded/chamois shorts are the worst thing ever invented. The waistband digs into your stomach and they are never comfortable as they move around a LOT. Bib shorts remove that issue as they don't need a tight waist and also, the shoulder and crotch anchor things in place.

TLDR; It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist (for you)
