Agreed. Same on Oranges. All essentially identical bikes, so should work a treat serviced and set up right.

I could get it serviced, or I could get a new shock and negotiate the price down, and they would cost the same, and getting a new shock would mean I'd have a spare shock. Has anyone ridden a vivid air?

There’s likely that. There’s 5 reasons most people list shocks for sale. 4 of them are because they don’t want to pay for a service.

It’s finally dead

Cracked the rear rim in more than one place, so I chucked my spare wheel on

Now I need to decide which rim to lace to the rear hub. Blue stype, black mtx, silver spank or an unknown white rim

You should get some life out of the mtx and s-type (pretty sure the s-type became the mtx?). I've ran both a few times (mtx39 and mtx33 were my go to rim for a few years when CRC used to do free wheel builds) without any issues. You'll pay a hefty weight penalty though.

That spank should give you plenty of love as well.
