Samsung fridges. Talk about crap

BOSCH are on my never buy again list. Dishwasher dead in 3 years. Was told around $1k to fix as error code pointed toward a control module. Washing machine died last week, 5 years old. $220 for someone to take a look and provide costings for a repair. Nah, I’m good.
Asko are pretty solid, IMO. had 3, I think. The last one was installed in 2014, and worked right up to a month or so ago when the electronics went dead. Just bought the cheapest one, about 1900 installed, inc removing the old one. Working well, virtually all metal innards. has a great 90 minute cycle.

One of my friends had a shitty warranty experience with a Hisense. They had to use the ombudsmen word, can't quite remember if they actually lodged a complaint. One of the louvres broke and they ended up with exploding cans because their fruit and vegetable drinks tray was too cold.

I've got an Australian made F&P fridge that I bought 20 years ago. Now serves as our second/drinks fridge. Zero issues.
I'm still using my F&P fridge which I bought off the back of a truck 28 years ago. It's still going strong after surving multiple moves with dents to prove it.

Yeh, this one has been through 4 moves and surprisingly still looks new.

I remember when I bought it, got delivered with no manuals or warranty card. I called F&P, next day a legit F&P guy in uniform knocked on the door with the docs.

Just bought our first brand new fridge ever and looked at Samsung, LG and F&P. Went on the 30+ years we've got out of an F&P which still keeps my beer cold in the garage but over time builds up an iceberg in the main section so needs a defrost once a year or so.

We love the new fridge, had read the veg crisper was good, it definitely is, things are lasting way longer than the ~15 y/o Westinghouse that still works fine and the kid now has, another solid brand.

We've just filled our new house with German appliances.

Bosch ovens, dishwashers, washing machine and dryer. Being able to control these appliances with my phone is genius. Especially the oven, which can suggest cooking programs based on what I'm cooking.

Miele fridge, freezer, and induction cooktop. I had heard the connectivity of Miele appliances was bad, and it is. So chose appliances where it didn't matter so much.

Can't comment on longevity, but we've had a good run with Bosch dishwashers and washing machines in the past.

As for other brands, we've had a good run with F&P, Panasonic and Mitsubishi fridges. Haven't had a good run with Asko washing machines and dishwashers.

We've been warned off Liebherr fridges and told Sub Zero aren't worth it.

Just my opinion, but I deliberately pick the basic versions of things. Less features is less things to go wrong.

Connectivity is cool until the app stops being updated and potentially won't work with your phone in 5 years time.

I think @ozzybmx had good experience with Hisense fridge and a warranty claim. I have a Hisense dishwasher and it has been solid.

Mitsubishi fridge are great as well. A bit pricier but have been happy with ours.

Yeah, they replaced a 5yr old fridge with the next model up.

Bloody touchscreen on the Bosch oven is just about unusable again. People all over the net with the same issue, absolute shite.

We had a basic POS oven at the place we were renting. That added way more grey hairs than it was worth.

The new Bosch Series 8 is an absolute pleasure to use. I've been having a great time with the air fryer function, 12hr lamb, candied brussel sprouts etc etc etc. If you enjoy cooking, just spend up and get the proper tools.

Bosch washing machine, induction cooktop and pyrolytic oven, we got the oven with the dials.

Well, just got home yest afternoon from 6 days peace in Melrose. Coincidentally after just saying about it on here, next thing shes 'get that oven fixed, the screen doesn't work at all'

Seems a call out can be saved by doing a screen calibration. Its all good now.

How did we manage without YouTube? I seem to recall we read the paper manuals ;)

Its awesome, so much info out there for anyone who doesn't mind giving shit a go themselves.

The touchscreen recalibration is an appliance tech call out and recal fee going by the info available, they apparently use a 'special' recalibration tool that resembles a steel stylus. Reddit said the handle of a teaspoon does the job, so that's what I used.

Must have saved about $300 on that self fix

New helmet time.

+1. Or the company that makes it decides to 'End of Life' the product and stop updates or connectivity to the older versions. I don't see why we 'need' internet connected appliance to remove problems that don't exist except to make the sales pitch more compelling.

Our Samsung fridge is still motoring along after about 10 years or so, touch wood but does need a regular deicing in the freezer compartment.
The deep freezer at Mum's is into its 45th+ year and the only thing that has busted is the power on light bulb. will outlast time itself at this rate.

Nothing to do with marketing, it's built-in obsolescence. Designing a fridge, or oven, dishwasher etc (FFS) that bricks because the software - that you didn't need in the fist place - bricks the fridge after a few years, is every kind of fucked.

Yep couldnt give a shit about connecting with stuff remotely.more stuff to fark up .
Am pleased the Leaf EV doesnt have internet connection. War or argument with China and they can shut down the cars they made.
We bought a Speed Queen basic completely mechanical washing machine ,its easy to fix , no electronics to blow up when water gets in.
Although we have solar I have no idea what its doing as long as there is enough.
saw a friend at petrol station /hardware ,he starts showing me graphs on his phone of his system > yawn.

Gotta get a new fridge, going for one of those bourgeois two door joints.

And yes, fuck connected devices, we leave enough data about the place without trying.
