Eats cheese. Sells crack.
Been looking at one of these to replace the swarf for nearly the whole year. I’m really enjoying riding the short travel bike and wanted to drop a few kgs.
Picked up the whole bike at the Yarra valley carpark sale. Too long of a wait for frame only so got the whole bike and flogged off the parts.
Running a 36 sl. Which I’m a bit disappointed in. Too much bushing slop out of the box and way too much grease in the air spring meant it was getting stuck down at 90mm. Not great for a top end fork.
Brakes are some Trickstuff which I maintain are the greatest brakes ever made.
Wheels are hope on dt Swiss and maxxis exo+
Running gear mechanical sram xx1, burgtec pedals, bent xt cranks
Bikeyoke post and sdg ti fly
Cockpit in a Renthal bar at 30mm (I’ll get a 40 soon enough)
Weight between 13-14 I think.
Geo wise seems pretty standard. I got an s3. Everything feels pretty solid so far. There is a bit of noise from the odd cable rattle in the frame. Build quality of the frame seems alright.
The only niggle is no ability to run a 200/203 rear rotor. But what really pissed me off is the requirement to remove the brake caliper to change the pads.
Fuck me what idiot approved that shit before sending the napkin drawing to Cambodia for some poor prick to lay it up for the next 16hours of his life for $75. I expect this shit from PON holdings or on a Scott, not the shore bros, has Minaar never changed a brake pad in his life?
Anyway bike seems to go hard so far, took it out to warby to follow the shuttle bros and it is the fastest blu flow trail bike there is. The thing is a weapon, corners well and doesn’t get too flexy in the bro bermz. Jumps pretty good, bottom out is incredibly harsh however. Seems to climb fine, I’ve got the shock in the mid position all the time.
I’m not sure if I need to go full xc and loose a bit of weight and get some paper tyres, carbonz and clip pedals to get the most out of it, but I’ll run it as is for now and see how I go.
I don’t think it’s missing a certain je ne sais quoi, but it’s more the swarf had it. I’ll run it for a season or two and if I don’t love it I’ll pull the boat anchor out and get the swarf rebuilt.
Obligatory backie shakedown
