Red Hill generally holds up pretty well in the wet, as most of it is on granite-based dirt and drains really well. Pink Line/Wonga and the link across from the top trailhead to Crits & Deadwoods can get very slick, but tend to stay reasonably firm, because they're on the basalt clay capping that extends from further east along the ridge, and East Link across the bottom gets all the runoff from further up....

It's the roadside stuff that suffers, because most of that is on the clay stuff.

The club trail crew are usually in on Tuesday afternoons, but after something like last night's blow, the final say on if/when stuff can be done comes down from Parks Vic.

Hello Red Hillers. How are the trails likely to be on Monday with the rain that's meant to be coming the rest of today and tomorrow?

Had a fair bit of rain Friday night/Saturday morning, which possibly swept a lot of loose stuff off, so surface should be pretty grippy. However the couple of huge dumpings earlier in the year took a fair bit of dirt out. With not much rain to speak of otherwise, coupled with a lot of traffic, some trails are getting pretty rough & blown out.

I was there this morning , a few wet patches here and there but mostly pretty good , it hasn’t rained since Thursday and it drys pretty quickly there

The main park trails hold up pretty well in the wet 'cos they're on the gritty granite part of the hill, which drains pretty well. The roadside stuff to the east and south, where you'd go to get distance up gets pretty shit in the wet, and takes longer to dry out.

Was there yesterday bit soft in areas but very rideable. Avoid Friends track that would be pretty runny.
