Project Car / Motorbike thread. Let's see 'em.

Walked past this stranded with a dead battery in a precarious spot, so pushed it into somewhere better and then got his jump back connected he was struggling with. But cooling fan wasn’t playing ball so still overheating. Event organisers had a tow on its way, so jsut stayed for a while chatting. US car flown here for a concourse tomorrow.

One of 37 built. Currently worth about $4 Million Australian dollars.

Even though it was missing a fair bit with vapour lock it sounded decent too. Found the throttle linkage on the triple downdraft webers once she fired - obviously it needed a bit of revving to avoid stalling ;)

It was Only worth $4M before you put your finger prints on in pushing.
Gotta add another $100K being unique now

Clutch out. Dual mass flywheel was twisted and on its way to being two single mass flywheels. Holes are meant to line up... Clutch has plenty of life left. Maybe 500km. Track abuse as opposed to daily driver abuse.

Good effort. Solid flywheel going back in?

I found myself a dream Datsun 520 ute.

Completely standard, paint is very faded but no structural rust and no past repairs (good). It's my dream shuttle mobile (with work and a few modifications of course).

...I just can't seem to justify pulling the trigger though. Feels like a massive splurge.

As a former Datsun owner here, I feel your predicament keenly. I had a tidy and mildly modified 1600 sedan I purchased for a few thousand before I was twenty. Looked up the prices of them a few months back as nostalgia was biting and was blown away what people are asking for them now.

That being said, the joy a car like that brings is immeasurable. - especially if you can cross-pollinate it with another hobby. Soon as you fire it and it takes its first cool, raspy breath through the carby there'd be a smile ear to ear across your face.

You will regret if you don't. Even if you only keep it for a few months before you realise it's not all that, at least you'll know.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking..scratch the itch. If it doesn't work out, at least they don't lose value.

@beeb my first car was a 1600. I'd love a Coupe as well but they are eye wateringly expensive these days.

Car back, new clutch fair bit lighter than old. Took a bit longer than planned as I wasnt in a hurry and many emergency jobs appeared. All good except the battery off has meant all the warnings are back on. Do you know how many times you can hear "please obey all traffic rules" in 8km? Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhh!

Fixed now.

Already done. Day after the war kicked off I jumped on Supercheap and saw they had the mobil 1 we use for cheaper by the 5l than our normal wholesale price on the 20l drum. This seems to happen several times a year and as much as I'd prefer it in the drum for ease of handling/easier to pump, a saving is a saving. Will be interesting to see where the price goes next.

Up is my guess!!

I've got about the next 4-5 years worth of Shell Helix Ultra for the Alfa under the bench from sales over the last year or so - including a dozen 1 litre bottles that was silly cheap compared to the usual 5 litres i get it in! Weird how that works sometimes.

Went to grab another 5 litres anyway and missed the repco sale by an hour it seems, back up to $90... Particularly keen to grab more if there is another sale (unlikely...) because the Shell Helix Ultra stuff is made with basestock created from natural gas, and the plant Shell built for it is in Qatar and got bombed...

Can't remember where I posted about posting tractor parts that they wouldnt post outside the US. Set up an account with myus and the supplier did indeed accept my money and ship to the drop ship address. They can handle Oz customs from there but tractor parts were a bit confusing and they suggested looking after that locally. So I did. Arrived to drop ship Tuesday their time. 24 hours on and DHL are giving me tracking info for delivery early June subject to any customs delays. If I was going to try and make this kit I would not be able to use an integrated valve block and prebent hydraulic lines but would need to remote mount a valve block, custom make hoses and levers and that would be messy in a tight spot. Valve block is north of $2k with 6 hoses being at least $500. So far this kit owes me under $1,000 to my door. Plus Gerry tax etc on arrival. Hopefully it arrives and the taxes are not heinous...
