Merry fucking Xmas to you assholes
Sparco too. Not sure about others. I looked at the CS but even with airbags local auto eng would not mod plate without manufacturer approvals!
So why was the Cobra ok and the Sportster CS not?

...
Why they bought an old beemer diesel suv as "a temporary car" on a whim is a different issue im staying out of...
The diesel X5s are awesome but I would only ever buy a diesel car new or from someone I know. There are far too many being sold after an accidental fill up at the "petrol" station...

I'm not sure what's wrong with this one, but there is apparently an error code, something about needing injectors and a $20K quote from the dealer to fix what they think is "probably the problem". Another indie non-euro specialist quoted $7K, and offered to buy the car as is if they wanted to get rid of it (I smell a rat there!!).

Anyway, they're freaking out and wondering if they should sell it to the kind mechanic who offered to take it off their hands... I said just take it to an actual BMW mechanic so hopefully they'll be more useful...

My Merc starscan system arrived yesterday. It's a second hand ex dealer setup so without the dealer subscription won't recode modules on the latest mercs but that's not an issue for me.

I'm amazed by how easy it is to use. The diagnostics are excellent. It's like car repair for dummies. Click on a fault and it guides you step by step through all of the tests with pictures and video along with real time values from the sensors with normal value ranges highlighted and pity of spec stuff nicely colour coded.

With this sort of gear servicing at the merc dealer should actually be cheaper than the good ole days with paper repair manuals etc.

I had a lead on an E9, plan was to make it a batmobile track car. It was fucked, rusted beyond saving and no mechanicals. And too expensive. I spent a few hours going over it, tried all sorts of ideas in my head but it was too far gone.
I came close to buying a sedan 3.0 back in my uni days. It was $800 as I recall, and pretty clean and original - and a manual. Had a suspicious engine knock that scared me off, but really should have bought it... Lovely thing.

I almost bought an 850i once...

Thats another one on the want list... Would make the top 100 cars I'd like to fill a shed with list!
Only if it was a static display. The maintenance cost on those is epic! Although in fairness that applies to any BMW with 8 or more cylinders.

Seriously, if you're going to do classic cars avoid BMW; Mercedes and Porsches are way easier and cheaper to keep running.

If I can afford the collection, I can afford the upkeep :)

Short of a lotto win or being scooped up by a sugar mummy, it will have to remain a dream....
