Thinking about that more, I looked at some stats on embodied energy.

I guesstimate that we'll have 30-40% of the house left. The lowest embodied energy houses have 10 years of operational use embodied, the worst 20 years. The low figure for energy consumption is 10 tonnes per house per year, 20 for big places.

A return flight CBR - Cairns emits 0.7 tonnes so there's around 70 return flights to Cairns in the embodied energy at the low figure.

Our household is closer to the low figures and the embodied energy of 20 years use happened 30 years ago.

If we take @Haakon's it's all too late view, at the very least we'll be more comfortable than most when the power rationing begins ;)

It's fire resistant.
Well, that's no fun at all. ;)

I don't know where else to put this, so fuck this guy and anyone else who lives like this! I know Australian car parks are generally shit house, but...clearly has a dick for a brain and a small dick. I was almost tempted to let the on road only tyres down. I year for the day when people living in urban areas are not allowed such vehicles without a significant and special reason.

It is a pretty standard size for a ute. It's not even a stupid F250, Ram or Silverado.

I wouldn't mind another ute (I used to have a Triton) but I really don't need something as big as all the current utes, but there's nothing decent out there. I'd even go electric, but you still need to by something the size of the Titanic, even if you could get one.

Flying doesn't count as planet pollution.

Green bean expert Haakon Thunberg flies business class all over the world, chemtrailing us peasants. Just think of the extra peasants that could be flying if you were to downsize your business class sprawl for extra seating ;)
Peasants dont count as people. They should be grateful to be on a plane at all!

The only ute for townies!

Not so much the size that blew my mind. I live in a city full of morons who think they need a ute! More the "just in case" recovery tracks in a seemingly permanent position on a car that likely goes off road about none times a year except gravel carparks. It is a symptom of our problematic way of life.

Saw a ram just the other day at the local trails.

Well, I'd take that over the Ace Yewt at a pinch. :p
Why to so many electrtic cars have to be so weird looking? It seems like they either don't employ any decent automotive designers or they are intentionally making them look weird so people can say "look at me, and my electric car". Tesla got things going on the right track with some nicely styled sedans (probably fell off the wagon with the Cybertruck) but they are out of the price range of most.
Make it look cool and not horrendously expensive and people will buy them.

Aerodynamic considerations?

It's possibly more aero than the Jimny.
For sure, but as the Rivian, F150 Lightning and Electric Hummer and in someway the Cybertruck prove, you don't have to be super aero to be electric. You can also style a car to look good and be reasonably aerodynamic too.

Yes true - These things must look much better on paper!

An interesting article -

Can We Make Bicycles Sustainable Again?

Cycling is the most sustainable form of transportation, but the bicycle is becoming increasingly damaging to the environment. The energy and material used for its production go up while its life expectancy decreases.

It's all a bit pie in the sky "if we lived in the perfect world" type of thinking but lacks a grip on reality.
There's a few errors that I picked out like that aluminium, like steel is easily repaired (most aluminium frames are heat treated thus rendering any welded repair much weaker than the original frame).
His conclusion to make bikes more sustainable is to have them locally made and go back 50 years in technology is never going to happen. You could make a more convincing argument that if you wanted to be totally sustainable you wouldn't have bikes at all, you would walk. ;)

Ugh, the bike equivalent of an old fart slapping the bonnet of his S10 with the "they don't make em like dey used toowe" line. Call bullshit on his "carbon has poor repairability" too.
