I read a book recently called World Wide Waste by Gerry McGovern, posted about it in the book thread. It's a lot bigger than just Bitcoin. And the book was written a few years ago now and of course it's only gotten worse.

Reminds me of the new washing machine I bought. If you put it on eco mode it fills the tub by the weight of the clothes to about a quarter, barely washes the clothes, and fixed time runs for 1hr. If you switch it to a 45min cycle it fills the tub to halfway and washes the clothes properly.
