I am all for these projects as long as there is a funded plan to get it out of the water if there are issues. The one at port kembla sat in the water for years after it failed. This looks to be a really good system. Mitigates a lot of the problems associated with wave/tidal energy, because the generator is not submerged.
Wave power that actually works? Trial of 'blowhole' generator off Tasmania labelled a success
This wave power generator has completed a 12-month trial off King Island in Bass Strait, successfully generating electricity for hundreds of homes — now the company behind it wants to look at what's next.www.abc.net.au
Was that the one that had a pontoon failure while being towed out for commissioning?I am all for these projects as long as there is a funded plan to get it out of the water if there are issues. The one at port kembla sat in the water for years after it failed.
The first failure was where it detached form the pontoon in rough seas. I get that we need some failures to make progress and this should not stop future projects. I can’t recall the exact reasons why it was a write off. The bigger failure was how long it sat in the seas as a wreck. I guess there was no money to be made or money left removing it and this makes people skeptical about these projects. Was that the one that had a pontoon failure while being towed out for commissioning?
Never understood that whole debacle.
We have a similar successful story here in SA, right off the coast from you.Was that the one that had a pontoon failure while being towed out for commissioning?
Never understood that whole debacle.
Yep, that one never went away. Would have been headline news were it not for the other thing fucking the planet.#morejoymondays
Just in case you thought we were going to miraculously "beat" climate change, there's this still lurking in the background to fuck the planet:

Yerp.Yep, that one never went away.

It was one of the hidden environmental issues in the aircraft industry too. The amount of chemicals that were "exempt from testing due to material requirement" (ie: nothing else works in this application) was staggering.

When the seppos left Australia they just buried everything like grubs, they unearthed chemicals in a park up the road from me where they used to make agent orange.Interesting article highlighting American hubris.

It's almost as if international offsets could be of questionable validity or something... (I know you already know this, but still...)Oil and gas industry seeks alternative to reducing emissions
The oil and gas industry pushes to be allowed to buy international offsets to meet emissions reduction requirements under the federal government's new climate change policy.www.abc.net.au
