Oops!...I Did It Again. Yeti ASR

@slimjim1 There are some pretty decent reviews around of the new Norco Revolver in 130/120mm guise.

I've always preferred being under-biked as well and the new slack XC/Trail bikes are bringing that idea back to the masses.

Having said that, I have just put my Giant (130/115) up for sale as I bought a gravel bike and I would like to widen the gap between that and the MTB. Even then, I'm only looking at a 140mm trail bike as lugging a 16kg and 170mm monster is only useful for me on 1 trail locally and maybe 2 or 3 that i would likely ride in a year.

Hmmmm. I turned the bike upside down today to take the back wheel off and this caught the sunlight. It is at the distal end of the seat stay at the junction between the part that is supposed to flex and a more rigid area where the caliper bolts on.

I'll keep riding it and see what happens, but it is pretty suspicious 🤨

May I be the first to say, gardamn

Well Wally watchers, I have a plan.

I've put 500km on it since I posted the photo and it looks pretty similar so I'm going to keep riding it. If it gets worse and Yeti send me a fresh frame then I'll build up a new Yeti.

However, if they decide to only send a rear swing arm it might be time to YOLO and get something custom built to celebrate my 40th later this year. Frame builder suggestions welcome while I ponder my options.

Time to let go of pure XC and cracked frames
Yeah given your fitness and what you're doing with it a slightly beefier bike could be a lot more durable.

The bigger Yetis still go like stink, if you wanted to stick with them something like an SB120 could be ideal. New model out later this year.

Yeah, Devlin was my first thought. Especially dangerous given they are in Tassie so I could check out the build process. The one that just won Vital Bike of the Day looks like my jam.

Regarding the trail bike question. In January I have ridden 500km on dirt with 13,000m of climbing. Are people doing this on 130-150mm trail bikes?

Sure are. Right in your own back yard.

Ooooo that is interesting. I loved my SB100, maybe I could negotiate an updated SB120 warranty replacement.

I think I have a warped perception because everyone I know with a trail bike rides it once a fortnight max...
I know plenty of people riding trail and enduro mtbs a couple of times a week.
A different bike won’t change your riding habits mate, I’m sure you’ll be ok hahaha.

Cotic flaremax?

Nicolai S11?

uber lightweight carbon jobbies just don’t seem to be up to what you do on a bike mate. Cop the weight penalty for a more solid frame and break components instead? I dare say you’ve got the legs to push an extra kg of frame weight around.

I didn't realise you were in Tasmania now. My perception is we at least used to ride similar bikes on similar trails, so in that context, every big Tassie park has had at least one feature where I've wanted a bit more travel, or maybe a dropper post.
