MTB in Japan

Heya,

anyone have any advice on MTB in Japan. I'll be there next year in Feb-March, so still a bit cool I am guessing. I'm more of a XC rider than DH, but always up for some fun. I've found some footage of tracks on Mt Fuji that look good, but would love some advice from anyone who has ridden over there.

Also - are parts or anything cheap over there? I have bought parts in Malaysia in the past, but I'm guessing Japan isn't that cheap. :)

cheers,
Chris

it ain't bad

I got back from there about 8 months ago, there's some good riding if you look around a bit.

It depends on where you live though. If you live within reach of Ibaraki (a bit over an hour from Tokyo), this place is good fun: http://www.takamineyama.com/takamine_main/. Downhill shuttles that anyone will enjoy, with rental bikes available. In the same area there is plenty of XC riding, contact this guy http://www.trailridejapan.com/ for a good place to start.

There is also great riding on the Boso peninsula (not too far from Narita) and I've heard there is good riding in the Hachioji area, but I never got out that way. For more downhill (with chairlifts) check out Fujimi Panorama.

Bikes aren't much cheaper than Australia, and most companies don't sell frames bigger than a medium. But Shimano is pretty cheap over there!

Thanks for that mate. Looks good. Will depend on the weather I guess.

Now, let's just hope the Aussie dollar lifts a bit before I head over!
