Motorcycle Thread - Post it all

Been poking about in mid life crisis mode and looked up courses for returning riders, dip the toes in and see if I miss it as much as I thought. Stay upright has a course listed but no dates. I would have thought it a reasonably common thing, anyone recommend a school?
Try these guys they offer private lessons - would help you get some perspective on what to do.

So want to buy one of these - only $19995 ride away - no way of getting it past the missus unfortunately

Andy strapz is looking to close up over this year. Been very happy with my pannier bags, sad to see nobody’s taking the company over.

My business partner David Song organises a yearly ride in the Himalayas. Last year the group summited multiple peaks including Umling La, the highest motorable pass in the world at 19,024 ft elevation. Thought some of you guys might find this aspiring, many more photos on my blog: https://www.zengarage.com.au/moto-himalaya-2025/

PS: He's asked me to come along to shoot photos, but warns me it'll be far from comfortable even if I'm not riding due to the altitude sickness, so it's a pass for me, for now, but I can't say I'm not tempted!

that looks like a once in a lifetime trip. isnt there some way to get there early and acclimatise before the road trip side?

Go.
Don’t overthink it, just say yes.
You’ll remember that trip forever.

Every ride I’ve done that was tough in the moment has become some of my favourite memories, wether it was trying not to murder my old man whilst stranded on a hill in Arkaroola or ridng for 13hrs across a desert without seeing a single other person whilst my hands are blistered and I can hardly keep my eyes open, bike was low on fuel and I’d ran out of water. Holy shit I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

+1.

I did London to Beijing with my wife on motorbikes for our honeymoon. Best trip ever!

We did the Tibetan Plateau and it was amazeballs. I don't recall any altitude sickness for us but it absolutely fucked the fuel pump on my KTM 990 and the carby on my wife's DR650, until a mechanic in Lhasa taught us to use a thin strand of electrical wire to limit the jet in the carby. Genius.

PSA: Don't take a euro adventure bike. A Honda Africa twin or Yamaha T7 would be ideal.

I’ve done a fair bit of high altitude skiing (up to ~4000m and had no ill effects other than feeling a bit unfit.

Himalayas obviously a chunk higher, but it affects people differently abd a bit of acclimatisation will see you right.

Echo the others, do it.
