You push it forward to enable high beam and pull it back for low beam, but it does not stay in that position, it will return to center. The first one occurred when I had a truck tailgating me and I went past a 80 ahead sign. The car interpreted this as a 80 sign and hit the brakes with the truck on my tail. The second time occurred driving on the highway and the car saw a 80 sign on a side road and hit the brakes. How are stupid things like this allowed to be put on cars in Australia? Last week I received a recall notice for the car. The recall is to modify the Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control so that it needs the driver to manually accept the speed change. I am not in a hurry for this update, as I will most likely leave this feature turned off.

My car had the recall software update done yesterday. I tried the so called "Intelligent Speed Limiter" on the way home. It is an improvement, but still a big fail as far as I am concerned.

The vehicle speed no longer changes automatically, the detected speed change has to be acknowledged by the driver before the set speed changes.

According to the manual: 'When a speed limit sign is detected the border around the traffic sign indicator and the set vehicle speed blink for approximately 10 seconds. While these indicators are blinking, press the RES/SET switch to the "RES/+" side or the "SET/-" side to set the detected speed limit as the set vehicle speed.' ... 'The set vehicle speed does not change unless the RES/SET switch is pressed to the "RES/+" side or the "SET/-" side.'

Sounds good on paper, apart from pressing the RES/SET to the increase speed or decrease speed direction acknowledges the speed change, regardless of the speed change actually being an increase or decrease in speed.

The speed detection is based on the cameras and also a ISA map database. Unfortunately the cameras miss a significant number of the speed signs and the ISA map database is not up to date.

Driving home yesterday in an 80 zone, I went past a 60 school zone sign, I ignored this as it was outside school hours. At the end of the school zone the speed limit changed to 100, the car beeped as I went past the sign (I thought it beeped to say it saw the 100 sign, but I did not check the dash), I pressed the RES/+ switch and the car hit the brakes to slow down to 60. I don't know why it did this, as it was more than 10 seconds since the start of the 60 school zone. If it has missed the 100 sign, the worst it should have done is increase the set speed by 5kmh to 85, rather than changing the set speed to 60.

At another location as I went past an 80 ahead sign, the car detected this as an 80 sign, I did not acknowledge this as I wanted to slow down gradually. When I got to the actual 80 sign the card did not give me another chance to acknowledge the speed change.

I like the "Manual Speed Limiter". I tend to set it the dominant highway speed and leave it there. Slow down zones I adjust my speed as you would in any car. The unpredictable nature of the "RES/+","SET/-" paddle while in the "Intelligent Speed Limiter" mode (unless you are staring at the dashboard instead of the road) is a no go for me.

I also wish they would not use words like "Intelligent" to describe the ability of the car to detect speed signs. If it was actually intelligent, it would not detect 80 ahead signs as 80 signs, it would not pick up 60 signs on a side street and it would not miss so many signs completely.

You need a new Hilux. I'm actually genuinely impressed at how accurate the driver aids are, like the speed sign recognition, and how unobtrusive they are. To the point I don't turn them off. Lane keeping isn't perfect, but definitely user friendly, and can be disarmed so it will only stop you crossing the lines. You can turn it off completely, but to have to do that every time.

Only downside is the fucking ugly front end, but it's got a bull bar and I'll cover the rest with lights.

I mean you can't complain about not connecting with people when you don't even know the name of the person you're talking to, it's not rude to politely say "I'm sorry I can't recall what your name is".

Sort of related but also conflicted. I fucking hate people who can't accept who they are.

I'm on my way back from skiing in Chile. And if I thought there was way too much plastic surgery in Manly... Brazil just asked to hold their shitty watery beer.

The number of lipstick/Botox/plastic covered porcas was mind blowing. I've only seen a few plastic surgery jobs that were convincing (Jeanie Buss I'm looking at you) everything else looks like a tired Bentley GT in peeling purple vinyl wrap .

The flip side of this vanity is the constant posing for selfies. I had a fucking field day photo bombing Brazilian Instagram.

Just put the fucking phone away and use that cosmetic surgery porca bank on skiiing lessons instead. That way you won't wander around ski slopes like World War Z and have random Aussies yelling at you to "get the fuck out of the way you fucking putas!".

I also developed a healthy hatred of Brazilians in Chile. The ones in Manly are cool, but those putas in Chile...

My Cannon does that too - it just tells you and that's it. Lane keep isn't too bad but I turn it off anyway as I prefer to have full control.
