Injuries. What's your story?

Holy shit. That's a farking gnarly incision. Glad they managed to fix you up.

Us men really are drongos when it comes to medical stuff aren't we? Typically we are on our deathbed, before we go see the quack.

two knights are standing next to each other in a field and one of them is saying ' tis but a scratch . '

I don’t think aesthetics was their top priority when they made that cut.

Yeah we are real boneheads hey. I by accounts was lucky to survive that and to think I’d almost deprived my family of a father because of my toys and male ‘she’ll be right’ attitude took some getting past.

Usual assortment of broken bones, bruises and stitches and dislocations but this one a few years ago almost killed me. Went OTB maybe 7-8 feet down onto a rock slab like superman.
Landed and made those weird noises for a few minutes before I rolled down the hill to the car. Thought I’d dodged a bullet. Plenty sore but nothing obviously broken. Full face smashed and eyebrow cut open but did its job.
Drove home and refused to get checked out.
Next morning, a Monday I decided to stay home from work and sleep. Was not feeling great. Tried to go to the toilet and woke up on the floor. Passed out. Still too stupid to realise something was very very wrong.
Missus gets home from work and I say ok let’s go to the hospital.
I walk in, tell my story, triage nurse asks if I’m normally as pale as a ghost and they quickly do an ultrasound to confirm their suspicions of internal bleeding.
So an ambulance arrives and lights and sirens to the nearest trauma hospital where they drained litres of blood from my abdomen and also took out my spleen whilst at it. I didn’t hit it with the stem or anything. It was just the impact was enough to blow it up.
The five broken ribs were the least of their worries. Like in the movies the doctors said I was pretty close to death because I was bleeding out and too stubborn to get checked out. They were shocked I was even able to walk into the local ER.

That’s the main reason I went to hospital.
I knew there was likely nothing they could do about my ribs (unless I had a floating piece). It was more that I was pissing blood that I knew there was a possibility of internal injuries that I went. Once they did a CT scan, they were happy that there was nothing serious going on insid, their focus was simply making su I was breathing deeply.

Probably 4 th time ribs ,last was 5 ribs , this time 6 and some broken twice and small .haemothjorax.
Am in hospital on drugs including ketamine some pleasant hallucinations lots of nice nurses
Was alone had to walk out was hyperventilating.
It's a slow technical rocky track and fell about 2m onto rocks.
It's difficult to get your hand and feet where you need them as you fall.
So will abandon clip ins for technical stuff .I am not suited to flats as I am really slow twitch and can ride forever but not strong in the calves but will try.
The problem for me is concentration , i don't do it enough.
Compared to skiing, mtbiking is dangerous.

I feel your pain. Hope the recovery goes well. 🤞

Rocks aren't nice to fall on. This is where I landed.

Went for a walk up yesterday to see where I crashed. Flew over the bars from a meter higher up the trail and landed on my right side and forearm.

Get well soon. I tell my wife gardening and renovating the house is more dangerous than MTBing. All the injuries I get MTBing I pass off saying I did them either working on house but mostly gardening.I read somewhere that people over 60 should not get on ladders.

Shiiit that sounds rough, get well soon!

I have had the usual assortment of broken arms, ankles, shoulder, collarbone, fingers, concussions etc over a career of 30 odd years of riding mtbs, but my most recent one was quite interesting! Had my head down grinding up a climb and copped a low hanging branch across the face that I hadnt seen - this stopped me very quickly and put me on the ground. After dusting myself off, I assessed for damage and I had a sharp pain in my forehead and what seemed like a cut above my left eyebrow but otherwise unscathed. My riding mate confirmed that three was a cut on my head. I bee-lined back to the car and drove home feeling a bit dazed and the pain in my head, I assumed was from the pretty hard head knock to the branch. When home, I jumped into the shower and went to clean the wound in my head but felt something funny... felt like a stick hanging out of my face. I quickly got out of the shower and looked in the mirror and sure enough what was thought a cut was actually a piece of wood imbedded into my face. I could see the bulge under the skin of a piece of wood that was hanging out above my left eye and was extended almost to the right eye above my nose under the skin. A quick trip to the local emergency department and it was quickly removed without incident and several chuckles from the medical staff who though they had seen everything! The piece of wood (or can I call it a large splinter?) was approx 10cm long and 1cm wide. I am pretty sure it deflected off my riding glasses as they got flung off into the bush, I will never ride without glasses!

Some people ride without glasses but are mad.
The last thing you want is a bad eye injury, which can easily happen if a thin branch is pointing straight at you .You only see the end on profile.
Was driving down from the snow and a thin branch had fallen across the road I didn't see it end on, broke. windscreen and slid over the roof.
