How good is Natanyahu? Blames Bondi attack on Albanese recognising Palestine.

Its just a deflection tactic. Gun control is damn good already in Australia.

Deflecting attention from the fact he has sat on the Anti-Semitism Report for now 6 months.
Not reacting to bombing jewish synagogues, university inaction, and many others.

Albanese has failed the Jewish community.
Does anybody need 6 guns? Gun licenses will be restricted to Australian citizens only. They are talking about a national gun register data base, where guns and ammunition are tracked. So that any unexplained build up of ammunition would raise a red flag.

Minns is talking about getting NSW parliament to reconvene before Christmas to get some of this legislation passed. Criminal laws constitutionally are a state power/jurisdiction so this is why the state parliaments also have to act too. Or is that enact too. The point is that there will need to be collaboration between the Federal and state governments to coordinate and implement the whole scheme.

Back to Ahmed el Ahmed, he didn't just save more lives on the day, but has saved a whole lot of hate and animosity towards the Muslim community too. Who knows he may have saved Muslim lives too. I think we got lucky there. It's helping to keep us united.

How many rifles and guns are enough for a person. Depends. When I had a license my old man and I had between us:

Boer war .303 - curiosity that was never fired by us and would probably blow up if you tried
Pump action .22 - same as above but from 1870 ish
Winchester .22 for vermin control
BSA .222 for larger vermin
Sako. 223 as above
Winchester .243 as above
12 ga side x side shotgun - ancient relic refer first two
12 ga under and over shotgun for clay targets
12 ga under and over shotgun for clay targets
.410 shotgun for whatever a baby shotgun does
.177 target air rifle
.177 another target air rifle
.177 basic bones air rifle

I don't have or use my license and haven't done since about 1996. #1 has some of those as keepsakes of his grandfather. The .303 and pump action .22 have very detailed histories, the .22 came from the wild west...

Each of those that fired had uses and were used. Target and clay were hobbies while vermin control was for friends and family property management.

I used to enjoy the target stuff. Tried clays again a few years ago and it was meh compared to my other vices. I have no desire to own or operate any firearm any more.

I have tried various pistols and bigger and nastier rifles too.

The point is I can easily see the need for more than 6 rifles. Hell a mate I target shot with had at least a dozen shotguns for various phases and types of competition. We would always take a spare .223 or .22 with us when vermin shooting.

I don't know what the answer is. But I do know it isn't thoughts and prayers* and it isn't guns don't kill people, etc.

* those are obviously curing kids with cancer...

If only Japan had a strict immigration policy, the Japanese wouldn't be experiencing these mass-casualty attacks carried out by other Japanese people.

Hey! I am a few days away from flying there. Keep the info happy happy joy joy.

Also my favourite story of poat ww2 japase domestic unrest...

I am taking my family to Japan in a couple of weeks too. Too bad he was arrested safely unlike the knife assailant in Taipei who fell to his death from the 5th floor while being pursued by police!

"...He fell to his death from the fifth floor of the store while being pursued by police..."

Former employee this time. Likely mental health related but not random.

Sadly not flying there soon. Please send pictures of amazing food/people/landscapes

I like facts and I appreciate that many of you here are trying to pull in lots of the facts - it makes this more objective rather than just gaslighting and throwing around immature comments. As such, I find one statement here hard to justify in my own reading..."Israel has committed genocide". I don't believe this to be true. To make this statement, you must also be able to back up something else...Israel is on a vendetta to kill all Palestinians. Is that true? Or are they simply fighting a war against a terrorist organisation that uses poor Palestinians as human shields? We've seen them do this by using hospitals as points of refuges, as armeries and key entrances for their tunneling system.
With this in mind, I'd love to raise the question, is what's happening in Gaza genocide? And if so, who is responsible? Israel or Hamas?
Things I like to keep in mind on the stats, is the source good? I mean, that figure of ~70,000 is provided by a terrorist organization...
Keen to hear people's definitions and their reasoning behind it.
Oh and one last thing, if genocide is what happened during WW2 to the Jewish community whereby 6 million people of a particular race were killed then can you call something that is arguably 100th of the size genocide? (None-the-less, it's pretty horrible what happens in war and the reports are saddening).

Hey! That is the extent of my depth of character.

"Israel has committed genocide".

I dont have the resources to undertake an in-depth investigation of whether or not Israel is committing a genocide or committing war crimes during their invasion of Gaza. Fortunately for me (and everyone else) the United Nations have been able to give it a pretty in-depth investigation and provide guidance on the matter.

Heres a news article for quick reference:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-16/israel-committing-genocide-in-gaza-un-report-says/105780230

Perhaps you prefer it from the source themselves:

I like the user friendly reading:

And as has been noted before, the Israeli government has one of the most sophisticated intelligence agencies in the world. If they wanted to just eliminate the Hamas leaders and operatives...they could. They wouldn't need to rely on the mass obliteration of civilians to access their enemy combatants.

LET'S KEEP THE HEAT OUT OF THE DISCUSSION, PLEASE.

@LivinIT has raised a question which is likely to trigger emotive back and forth. I'm more than happy to have the debate regarding genocide, but I want it focused on the issue. I do NOT want to see any judgement passed on people who disagree, and I do NOT want to see any belittling or name calling of those involved. You may cast aspersions on organisations and individuals (they are deliberately doing XYZ, their aim is to blah blah blah). But what cannot occur in this discussion is denegrating any people or organisations.

Approach this discussion like you are a lawyer and let your evidence to the talking.

You might want to identify which definition of genocide you are using. For me, it's the killing of people based on their genealogy (or in more practical terms, their 'race' or identity regarding culture or nationality).

For me, there is a lot of evidence of intent, in the least:

One, Yitzhak Kroizer, said in a radio interview: “The Gaza Strip should be flattened, and for all of them there is but one sentence, and that is death.”

Tally Gotliv, from Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, demanded the prime minister use a nuclear bomb on Gaza for “strategic deterrence”, the letter says, quoting her as saying: “Before we consider inserting ground troops, doomsday weapon.”

Another Likud MP, Boaz Bismuth, is quoted as evoking the biblical massacre of the Amalek nation, enemies of ancient Israel. “It is forbidden to take mercy on the cruel, there’s no place for any humanitarian gestures,” he said with reference to Gaza, then added the biblical reference: “The memory of Amalek must be erased.”

Among other commenters cited is the journalist Zvi Yehezkeli, who said on Channel 13: “[We] should have killed many times 20,000 people, [we] should have begun with a blow of 100,000.”

This would be more ethnic cleansing:

I think that there is pretty strong evidence for starvation being used as a weapon along with medical sites being deliberately targeted.

It's very difficult to verify a lot of things (whether Hamas is using hospitals for cover, whether Hamas is not using hospitals for cover). Neither side of this struggle running over generations have covered themselves in glory, there is no shortage of blame on either side of this divide. What concerns me though, is Hamas is definitely a terrorist org and a dictatorship/kleptocracy/etc. all rolled into one. Israel is/was a liberal democracy. I think that it's reasonable to expect higher standards from Israel than it is from Hamas.

Ah yes, I guess the definition is part of my question hey. Thanks for the insightful replies fellas.
Definition I like to refer to is the original one: The intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group as such.
The Guardian reports you've linked certainly suggest genocidal intent from those people but where it gets tricky is a lack of unified intent to wipe out Gaza/Palestinians for being Palestinians by the IDF/Israel government as a whole...which SEEMS to be where the current debate is hey?

Cheers guys and keep the sources coming.

One I just had a look at which gives insight into both sides: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/u...sing-views-on-findings?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Thanks Pink Poodle.
I'll keep reading through your sources here - at this stage I've just worked through the ABC article.
The ABC raises some good points but the question I keep coming back to is around this statement:
"the UN Human Rights Council, concluded that Israeli authorities "intended to kill as many Palestinians as possible" and have committed the crime against humanity of extermination."
And similar to what Mr Sidoti said: "If you listened to Netanyahu, you would come to the conclusion that the Israeli Defence Forces are the most incompetent army in the world,"

So my question around these statements is through reverse engineering...if the IDF wanted to simply wipe out Palestinians, why wouldn't they have wiped out a much larger proportion if not all of the population? They could have easily wiped out a far higher number of Palestinians so if it were genocide, why wouldn't they have done so?
Is the argument more so about carelessness or am I missing something?

Hey! That is the extent of my depth of character.

Ponder this - if the australian defence (lol) forces had committed similar acts in simialr scale to those reported about the IDF while invading Iraq or Afghanistan, how would they have been viewed here in Australia and by other nations?

Of course some similar things did appear to have happened and Australia was outraged but in the end only the whistle-blower was genuinely punished. But I dont want to derail this conversation with all of that.

I agree with much of what you are saying here Johnny.
Also...
It is worth noting that only a minority of the world's nations designate Hamas as a terrorist organization.
It is also worth noting that most of those nations have a dark history of violent subjugation and colonial expansion, including those responsible for encouraging the establishment of israel, by the forced occupation of palestinian lands, and killing and driving the original people from their land and homes, in a more or less continuous process since the Nakba of 1948.

Whilst it is both convenient and easy to describe Hamas as a
terrorist org and a dictatorship/kleptocracy/etc.
Many of those behaviours could also easily be ascribed to the israeli regime, particularly their frequent and brazen violation of international laws: eg regarding behaviour of an occupying force, as well as many others, and their countless human rights abuses, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

It seems that the israeli regime has only had a certain period where it could be described as a 'liberal democracy' when looking at the rights and freedoms enjoyed by jewish israeli citizens. To say that arabs and Palestinians living in territories occupied by israel are second class citizens is a huge understatement.
The rights and freedoms of the jewish israeli citizens appear to be on the decline, as popular support for the ongoing & massively assymetric conflict has declined, and orthodox/ultra-orthodox jewish groups have resisted edicts ordering them to serve in the military, when they were previously exempt, IIRC. Also, There are pending corruption charges against netenyahu, who has attempted to introduce reform legislation in order to strip the power of the judiciary of the right to rule on the "reasonableness" of decisions by the Israeli executive branch or parliament. It appears that netenyahu and friends were relying on the conflicts continuing, in order to avoid prosecution.

I think you need to stay a little more true to your chosen definition.

"The intent to destroy in whole or in part,...."

They don't need to destroy a large amount of the population, or larger than what you think would be significant. They only need to destroy part of it because it is part of that nation, ethic, racial or religious group to qualify as genocide. Of course, proving that this has been a deliberate strategy is going to be near impossible as those who made and implemented those decisions will never fess up. Secondly, those orders would not have been explicit down the chain of command, but enough implied direction and refusal to adequately punish indiscretion (the punishment of IDF personnel for the death of the World Kitchen workers was a joke) sends enough of a message to those slinging the lead.
I agree with much of what you are saying here Johnny.

Yeah, I don't have any fundamental disagreements with that.

I don't think it's hard to make a case that Hamas has and continues to use terror as a weapon (kidnapping civilians for political bargaining chips will tick that box right from the get-go). I also don't think that it's hard to make the case that Israel has been guilty of state terrorism a multitude of times over the decades (The nation itself was, to a small degree founded on an act of terrorism: the bombing of the King David hotel in 1946 for those who want to dig into it).

But, there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism and the labeling of any group is not only a political and diplomatic act, but it can also be an act taken to simply authorise powers for punitive actions.

While we are on subject of the definition of genocide look what I found an ultra-right fundamentalist Christian climate denyer mate of mine posted:

his inumeracy is almost funny, quite obviously the time on the x axis has not yet been reached where the curve peaks and takes a downturn. The morality though behind this post is frightening. Not to mention the utter legal ignorance.
