Israel would have the strongest possible anti-semitism measures in the world under Netanyahu, and even these were not enough to prevent October 7.

A Liberal government was in charge when the Bondi shooter was investigated and ultimately deemed not worth the increased scrutiny.

Hang on a minute, Australia expelled the Iranian ambassador, listed the IRGC as a terror organisation, the neo-Nazis have been a huge focus of law enforcement and other areas of govt (look how many have been arrested, investigated, etc. There is a huge amount going on behind the scenes in this area). I'd also add, that this looks like a 'traditional Jihadist' attack rather than something specifically in response to Gaza. I'm not sure that doing anything in the universities or in the anti-Semetism report would have had much of a deterrent effect. This was basically a suicide attack - they don't seem to have had a plan to live through it and escape.

Not trying to put shit on you here, but this sounds like a regurgitation of right-wing media rather than a reflection of what is actually happening.
 
No amount of anti-semitism government programs can stop people whose minds are made up.

Some higher level of security check is surely needed, owning a firearm appears to be easier than getting a government job.

I think there is some checks, but certainly feels like they could be strengthened. But I'd like to see the introduction of ongoing checks. Every couple of years or so, because a person might be okay when they first apply - but have some change in life circumstances (divorce, victim of a crime, drug use, whatever...) and become mentally unstable or radicalized after they've got their license. I realise this would place an additional burden of law-abiding and mentally stable gun owners, but IMO the less guns around the better.

Guns don't kill people, hemorrhaging, cardiac arrest, and the inability of the brain to function when it has a hole in it kills people.

That's what we need to legislate against, rather than make good law abiding terrorists, drug gangs and domestic abusers into criminals.

The security vetting process has renewals, the higher the level the shorter the renewal period.

Well i think there are 3 very important take home messages in this article:
- one of the misinformation sources is based in peaceful Iceland.
- the article doesn't touch on the gunman's time serving in the idf.
- sure the make up scene may have some faults, but Ostrovsky still forgot the script for why he recently came to Australia.
