Gps bike trackers

I did a search but my interweb skills are shit.

Who uses a gps tracker on their bike?
What brand?
Why should I get that one?

We are going for a 4 week holiday riding and climbing, I'll want my bikes back if someone pinches them.

Yes I have good cable locks etc, a battery grinder and turbo disc won't stop them.

Apple AirTags are pretty popular and there’s a whole load of things you can buy or 3D print to hide them in various places like bottle cages, steer tube etc.

There is an anti-stalking measure where an iPhone will warn someone if a tag seems to be following them around, so it’s feasible a thief could be alerted.

The tags don’t have GpS themselves so the whole system relies on Apple devices and iPhones being nearby to connect.

I’ve seen a few success stories online where people have recovered stolen stuff, so seems an ok option.

i always like the idea of Data dot technology but just did a quick read up. Seems it isn't that well reviewed. Can't imagine many PoPo getting a stiffy for checking bikes over with a wand/ microscope when they apprehend a thief. When our car was stolen at Easter they were v.keen to follow the airtag until it was found in glovebox and dumped (on generic keys). I put that down to a single police officer though and she was excellent at her job.

I refuse to be an apple fanboy, so that's out.
So, all these "trackers" aren't really going to tell you where the sensor is?
I get this.

Only Apple product in the house is my work phone (still can hardly use the thing, tbf I haven't tried that hard to learn).

I think I've told this before on here about when I bought a bike for my rapidly growing mini me.

Picked up a second hand rig in pretty good knick really cheap and even haggled him down a bit more..bike had never seen dirt. Got it home and put it in the garage, went out a few times over the next couple of hours and every time I moved it it would make a really low emitting beep but only once and it would take approx 1/2 hour to reset.

After a couple of hours of thinking I was hearing things I found an Airtag hidden under the seat, took it off and put it the park across the road, called the the guy I bought it off and left a msg asking if he left anything on the bike he wanted back - got crickets back, absolutely ghosted - went to the popo station next day seeking some guidance (as I wanted it on record bike was being tracked) and they said that they had reports of newly purchased second hand bikes being stolen and they said to bring the Airtag in and they would keep it in their lost property, so dropped it in to go to the LAC.

Got a txt about a week later from the seller asking if I had moved as I mentioned in casual conversation what suburb I lived in on pick up but bike somewhere else. Told him it was at my place of employment - I'm not a cop but the tracker was located there- and he could collect the tracker at his leisure... never heard anything back.

I use a Samsung Smart Tag 2 in my car and its surprisingly good; updates frequently via other passersby and long signal range.
