REDEFINING OUR CATEGORIES
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of our new bikes we have to define what these
bikes are for. Everyone loves to attach a label to their bikes and put them into categories.
Trail, all mountain, enduro, freeride, cross country, down country... So why fight it?
In our new lineup, every model is unique but they are all in the same category.
These are mountain bikes designed for going...

The 2015 Transition lineup features four new models with different wheel sizes and distinctly
different characteristics to suit a variety of riders, regions and trails.

PATROL (27.5" Wheelsize, 155mm Rear Travel/160mm Front Travel)
SUPPRESSOR (26" Wheelsize, 155mm Rear Travel/160mm Front Travel)
SCOUT (27.5" Wheelsize, 125mm Rear Travel/140mm Front Travel)

ABOUT GIDDYUP SUSPENSION

When we set out to design the new family of bikes, we wanted to improve our suspension pedaling and braking performance,
but we didn't want to lose the neutral and comfortable feel that Transition Bikes are known for.
No one at Transition wanted a suspension system that felt like it was locking out, or provided any "kick back" in the pedals.
We also wanted to maintain the lively feel that makes a Transition fun and easy to ride.
Our Giddy Up link is carefully tuned with just the right amount of chainstay growth at all points in the travel.
The chainstay growth is highest near sag to keep you moving forward when you get on the gas,
but it decreases deeper in the travel so you never feel the drivetrain fighting the suspension.
Hop on a Giddy Up bike and you will feel at home immediately.
Lively when you pedal, smooth in the rough stuff, and ready to boost off any kicker in the trail.

Our new models are designed to be active while climbing;
increased compression damping or lockout settings are strictly optional with the Giddy Up link.
With the shock open, the suspension remains free to smooth out the trail, improve traction and control without sacrificing efficiency.
There is no need to think about flipping switches; you can start your ride with the shock open and leave it there.
With Giddy Up you can focus on the trail, not your remotes, levers or knobs.
Just grab your bike, Giddy Up and go.

Norco, avanti and others have been using fsr forever and that didnt seem worthy of a mention....

The speed of their change to fsr now the patent expired shows they didnt have the greatest of confidence in their old design.

No one is denying the bikes are FSR.... Giddy up / horse / Horst link.
Transition marketing fun...... This is mountain bikes.... It's supposed to be fun.

I'd say there was plenty of confidence in the old suspension design.
The design was used for many years and is still being used by many other brands, all with their own individual tweeks and takes.
Simple no BS fun bikes to ride, loved by most everyone that has ridden them.
The linkage driven SP is still being used on the new TR 500 and Ripcord.
While we knew there would be some backlash for the change, Transition is and always will be in the business to make bikes that perform well and are fun to ride.
For the new bikes, it was time for a change.

Pricing?

Any word on pricing for AUS? The supersport site still only has the old models.

The US price on the transition website seems to suggest they are cheaper than the outgoing models.

We are working on the new Supersports site right now.

Pricing will be pretty similar the the current frames.......
Basically after converting the USD pricing ( which does not include taxes) to the Aussie plus our GST...
Remember we were pretty close to parity on the US v AUD for a good part of late 2013 and 2014, and currently we are well below.

For example the Patrol frame:
USD $1999 divided by the current exchange rate... ( say quoted ANZ 0.8346 ) plus Aussie 10% GST = $2635 Aussie.

Australian RRP for the Patrol frame is set at $2599.00..... So we are doing what we can to keep it tight.

Nice to see the calculations. I always check the comparitive prices of bikes in the US/Other markets. One of the reasons Giant (and formally specialized) were good value is the aussie prices are the same or less then US prices for the same bike.
So it isnt always a straight calculation but sometimes based on competitive decisions about pricing/volume vs margins.

Once again- tall blokes miss out as they continue with this theory of short ETT to be more upright. Everyone wants to run short stems and wide bars with inline droppers- puit those elements together with a short ETT and out of luck. An XL frame with an ETT of 25 inches would work for most folks up to 6.2- taller riders have to run longer stems and set back posts to fit................. I just dont get it.

^ guess we are lucky that cycling has various frame sizes....dirtbikes in the main no matter what the capacity (last time I looked) are one size fits all...

the sport of mtnbiking is still trying to throw off the shackles of a bad fit theory from it's inception...

soz J but you are probably on the wrong side for lots if things fitting in your life, right?

A typical example is say a 27.5 Covert XL had an ETT of 643mm and a reach of 464mm.... The New Patrol XL ETT is 641mm with a reach of 483mm.
While ETT is somewhat important... IMO reach is a better measurement to go on with Mountain Bikes.
The XL's for the bikes inteneded uses are pretty spot on for 6'4" being the middle ground for the size.
Kevin ( one of the Transition owners is a giant... ) so he does pay a lot of attention to the bigger guys.

Previous years I had always been on a Large Covert..... This year a M size Scout has almost the same reach as the Covert L.

JD, are you referring to one of the new models in particular?....... Interested to know what you are currently on?

The bikes are down with a magazine right now, but get in touch in about 2 weeks time.... They may be back by then.

Currently on a Yeti Big top ETT 25.8 and was on a Yeti 95 @ 25 ETT, Pivot @ 25.9 and Turners at 25.4. To be honest I need a 26 inch top tube to run an inline post and short stem (around 70mm). I have never looked at reach in 30 years and cant really see how it can mean much on a 3-5 inch duellie other than a slightly longer/ shorter stem to fit- a good fit will always be based on Ett and seat tube length when you are 6.5 IMO
