I don't really use much else anymore apart from the 3M rubber mastic tape on the chain stays and cable rub areas.
I have 2m x 15cm on the way, I want it for when I mount the bikepacking bags to my gravel bike, the paint takes hammering under the bags with dust and dirt rubbing. Its can be removed after if it looks like shit.

Can anyone recommend a tape that's Black? Basically, my son's frame is black & red, and we want to cover the red bits without painting it.
Glossy would be better too, rather than just duct tape which is matt, and can wear and look old pretty quick.

Or electrical tape? Seems to stay pretty good looking for a while, I used to use it on my RC truck if I couldn't do heat shrink?
Or see if you can get some car wrap off cuts/motorbike kits (ebay etc. 3M seems to be the biggest brand), the shiny stuff stays much better looking than the matte. Wrap lasts on average about 3 years and you align it with the dishwashing soap & water so you can slid it on the frame to perfectly position it etc.
Check out some of the dirt bike guys and they use the stuff with great success on the trails they race and ride on. Seems to last a while.

Oh, self amalgamating tape. I always keep some in the car tool box for emergency repairs (thinking radiator hoses etc).

I doubt any self respecting plumber would use that for longer than it takes to get to the plumbing supplies shop and back though.

Frameskin make an expensive version of that as a chain stay wrap that I have used in the past for the intended purpose but also to make a top tube bumper where a brake lever would hit on full bar rotation.

I used the “clear” version on my chainstay. Works really well for chain slap protection and has held up well over 2 years.

Anyone ordered any decent thick clear tape from eBay lately ?

The last seller I bought from has disappeared.

Cheers

Been using this on my frames/cranks for a few years and haven't had any issues with it peeling at the edges (if installed properly). It's a lot tougher/thicker than clear gorilla tape too.

Good man ! Cheers.

I have been caught out by few crap ones over the years, was looking for a current genuine seller.
