Apparently some people quite like the Hilux BEV - it’s good for farmers who use it around the property and going into town etc. especially farms with their own solar.
BEV is nice for puttering around paddocks and pulling stuff around the farm etc.

There would be a lot of companies with "urban tradies" that would want the "seen to be green" promotional aspect of running EV's in their fleets, and a lot of metro tradies don't actually do big km's so an EV would be a pretty handy thing.

We just finished setting up the new Evnex charger at home.
It seems like a pretty good unit and you can do solar diversion, where you can tell the charger to divert as much solar to the car as you want from your solar panels without using anything from the grid. So if your panels are generating at 4kW, that the most it will push to the car and only from you solar.

We have a Solar edge that does the same thing, but our solar system isn't big enough for us to be exporting heaps to the grid beyond charging our batteries. So we just ended up charging off peak overnight anyway.

I've got one of these as well. One of the few chargers out that are pretty much compatible with all battery systems and use a hard wired connection rather than wireless to regulate solar surplus charging.

We have a 7.52kW system and no battery at this stage. We will use the off peak power when we don't get enough from the panels during the day.
Probably rust out before the bullet arrives.

I'm also not on an fancy ev rate price deal just a standard time of use tariff.
17 cents off peak- 37 cents on peak.
so i do my best to time my heavy usage during off peak.
If i can get away with it i just run the car down over the week and use the weekend off peak rate and charge up on that during the weekend.

A lot of the farmers I know around here would say yes but...as a result, no-one here is buying them. Or their ICE powered alternative for that matter.

I still find it funny that the rednecks in the US have this strange contradiction going on where they love Elon because of his "anti woke" stance but also hate electric cars at the same time.
I've used a similar argument towards anti EV people here in Australia. Because most are pretty racist, I ask them do they support using oil from Muslim countries, or true blue Australian made electricity (no matter how it's generated). It is quite funny watching them trying to compute the confliction in their minds. They don't like to be seen supporting Muslims and they don't want to be seen as green either.

I really struggle to understand the anti-EV mob. Makes no sense. It's like they love paying for expensive diesel. I thought it was an anti-chinese car thing, but some of these folks are anti electric anything - even bashing the ford ranger phev. I think I understand now. 4wding and to a lesser extent ute market is dominated my macho shows of the epic track you just did and how much stuff broke on your car as a show of hardcoreness. If a stock jimny, or tank 300 goes up beer oclock on stock highway tyres then yeah it's not that tough.

probably upset because it only costed a few cents at worse to speed up to 160kph whereas it'd costed them like 30 cents to a dollar.

I always hear "but what's the range?" - "Oh that's not enough for my needs..." (even if it's 600km it's not enough. Because apparently if you drive 5 hours straight, you need to be able to refuel in less than 2 minutes and drive another 5 hours straight immediately). But a lot of them have a missus with a second car who won't even drive more than 100km from home and would be super well-suited by an EV runabout they could charge off the solar. Oh well, their loss I guess.
This is spot on really. I must admit I was skeptical about longer trips before my other half got her EV. Now we're more likely to do a weekend in Sydney with it than my big diesel.
If you're on a three plus hour drive there are few reasons why a 20 minute stop is a deal breaker over a five minute one. It's really super easy and actually quite nice to sit down and have a coffee for a few minutes.
Caveat being long weekends or similar. I think there does need to be an improvement in how chargers are laid out on busy routes with a more obvious queuing system. The current arrangement of having a few chargers in the parking spots right by the door to the cafe isn't going to work as more people get EVs.
Just stick a big row of chargers out back with the truck filling so you can at least smell that sweet sweet diesel you're missing out on for aa few minutes.
