Good thing Lada don't make an ev. No radiator cap. IYKYK.

If solid-state batteries come to mass-production vehicles you may get your wish, until then they'll mostly all be @Haakonmobiles or slightly awkward looking sedans/wagons.View attachment 422589

This would look so much better as a wagon rather than an SUV
Unfortunately most car buyers are really keen on the SUV thing, so even Volvo are barely making wagons these days.If solid-state batteries come to mass-production vehicles you may get your wish, until then they'll mostly all be @Haakonmobiles or slightly awkward looking sedans/wagons.
You do know that Tesla's in our market are made in China, don't you?this is sarcasm right?
"Australia has no tariffs on Chinese EVs, unlike the US and EU, making it a preview of what open competition looks like."
The big Volvo is well into the SUV territory and does look sick as a wagon in your mock up, but the little one is much close to a crossover hatch.Unfortunately most car buyers are really keen on the SUV thing, so even Volvo are barely making wagons these days.
Tariffs are pointless here, because we don't have a domestic industry to protect.....It's true, I believe the earth is round.
However, going back to the tariffs on Chinese EVs we don't have any do we? As opposed to the US and EU, which have substantial trade barriers to protect their car industries. I think it might be optimistic if they think open competition is happening any time soon globally. - haven't read the article at all by the way.
Sure. Tesla is not SAIC or BYD or Geely though is itYou do know that Tesla's in our market are made in China, don't you?
I don't know why..... daft things..Unfortunately most car buyers are really keen on the SUV thing,
I reckon the looks of the Ioniq 6 are underrated. I reckon it's like an art-deco designer's future-vision dream car, with just a hint of Citroen DS thrown in as well.
I'm honestly hoping simpler/more customisable like the Slate comes to market here. Would make such a good runaround....why do all the promising sounding ute/vans always end up been vaporware.

Not really what I was talking about, more pointing out that just because it's a vehicle EV it doesn't automatically need a gazillion luxury features (especially if it's a ute) that adds to cost and complexity, but to your point...slate are cool but they only do about 386km which really is not enough.
Would be keen on a Seal wagon if it existed. The sedan had more legroom than the Sealion 7 (just).I don't know why..... daft things..
Still enjoying the Seal
Hey. Heeey. HEEEEEY!!!!Not really what I was talking about, more pointing out that just because it's a vehicle EV it doesn't automatically need a gazillion luxury features (especially if it's a ute) that adds to cost and complexity, but to your point...
...while it wouldn't be enough range for all, it would cover the needs of a lot of urban tradies. It's also just a basic 2WD ute, not a "getaway" 4WD ute for themetro posersadventure crowd - so I can't see why everyone would need them to have massive range. If the manufacturer was clever, they could offer a "range extender" second battery pack that would mount into the tray area (with a suitably sturdy cover to stop it being pierced, etc...) and could effectively double the range (with a moderately reduced carrying capacity).
Realistically most utes are barely used as utes anyway, and are often an inferior relation to a van or wagon unless you really, really, REALLY need to have a tray.
