Eating less f*cking food

We're kinda crossing into the whisk(e)y thread, but anyway, a good Islay will give you the nuances of a seaweed-fuelled bonfire in a shipyard. A bad, no-name one is like being hit in the face with a smouldering log.

Hmmm.......Islay Whisky seems to sound like having you taste buds belted with all sorts of unpleasant marine, smokey, wooden and peaty things and we are fine to line up for it.

So I've officially entered the Run Port Douglas 10k race for September :)

My weight seems to have settled at 94kg which is way better than I expected but I would like to be around 90kg by the end of the year.

So my plan to not weigh myself until the 31st of December 2026 (since October ish 2025) came to a screeching halt - Managed to herniate then detach parts of my L5/S1 disc that decided pressing on the Sciatic nerve was the best course of action. This had started in around February which I had put down to a torn hamstring as it was mildly annoying to start - Cue 2 mths later and I am in absolute agony - went to doc and got a CT scan and got an A4 page report on back issues including "Bulging" L4/L5 & L5/S1 - had targeted injection at these sites which of course did nothing so got referral to Specialist - MRI shows the major issue is the L5/S1 and its actually pretty bad.

So long story longer had surgery on the 22nd and as part of the admission process I have to weigh myself - Luckily I was down about 28kg from the last time I weighed myself.

Sciatic pain from pressure is no joke and I described it as "Suicidal" levels of pain - Nothing worked to alleviate it and I was barely functioning.

Supposed to have 2 weeks off work but feel pretty good and I can just enter paperwork and place orders at work so going back tomorrow (no point wasting holidays on doing nothing) - then 4 more weeks of no lifting anything heavier then 5kgs (Have to get missus to help me pee now of course) then I can go back to the GYM but still on restricted duties for 3 mths in total.

The operation was not a magic bullet and they say whatever recovery I have could actually take 18ths as when the operated the nerve was swollen and red raw - Have mild pain now that is actually controllable with pain meds so there is that at least.

I hope this is the final road to a full recovery so you can get back on the bike again!

@Minlak - on topic, but slightly off topic. Really appreciate you being open about your health stuff on here. Like a lot of fellas, I used to be pretty "She'll be right..." about everything, or be uncomfortable/unwilling to talk about such things. But as I approach my 40th, I've finally realised that talking about this stuff with others is a lot more helpful than trying to hide it - both from a (my) mental health point of view, but also as an awareness "talk about stuff and get it checked out you friggen drongos!" helping others understand they're not the first person in history to have XYZ common health problem. Kudos mate, the transparency you and a few others on here have shown over the years has really helped change my mindset on such things.
