Easton X5 hub

DMan

shawly the least hangeriest guy on rotorburn
I want to get more points of engagement as the hub is quite noticeably slower to engage than my previous hub. Can I stick a different Easton Freehub body on the X5 hub or does it have to be X5 specific and I keep looking for an X5 "upgrade" kit or something? Not having much luck on google with it...

File some extra grooves into the ratchet ring.

Sounds easy....

I'm presuming it's an engagement thing I should add. It's like a delay/space/partial pedal stroke/ I don't know/ between when you change gear, put the power down on the cranks and you feel the hub engage? More noticeable when climbing and you need to engage quickly.. It's a new wheel.

Might get my spline 1 hub laced to the rim then.

If the spline hub is the star ratchet type, you can buy the upgraded POE (36t or 54t) rings.
I went for the 36T on my DT Swiss hubs (up from 18t) and I'm happy I did. Not a cheap upgrade, $100+.......

Saying that, if I was building a set of wheels or relacing a wheel, I'd just buy a Hope Pro 4 and be done with it.

They are the star ratchet ones. Maybe I'll just save up a bit then. The X5s are fine for now. I just didn't expect to see the difference quite so much between them and my DTs.

By the time you re-lace the hub (with potentially new spokes and nipples) to your existing rim, it can get quite expensive. Unless the rims and hubs are good quality, its a false economy.
Might even be cheaper to buy a wheel complete with Hope Pro 4 from CRC with the same rim as your front (if they offer that option).

At least then you have a spare if needed.

That's probably a better idea actually, to just go for a new wheel.

Yep, Hopes are one of my favourite hubs. Tons of spare parts available and they are fairly reliable if you look after them.

Just realised that my spline hub would have been the 36t rachet as opposed to the 18 I thought they were. Which would explain why the engagement is/feels so much slower...

Yeah, sometimes it's harder to go back to the lesser when you get used to the 36T.

Oh well. I've got the 1501 wheelset as my spare set. No point in ripping it apart for the hub. I'll just save up for a new hub
