For a little diversion, here's #2, The Understudy. It's essentially the same thing as ex-#1 and Project Phoenix, just lower-spec. It"s a "grandpa's axe" kind of mixed bag of parts, directly tracing its descent from my first MTB, a 2008-model Anthem, whilst not carrying any original parts over to the current form..... Although relegated to reserve bike status in more recent years, it was originally my only MTB, and I held onto it because when I was doing long races it was handy to have a backup bike with the same setup.
Frame: 2012 Giant Anthem X1, 6013 aluminium alloy, 18" (M)
Fork: Rock Shox Reba dual air, Pop-Loc remote lockout, tapered steerer.
Shock: Fox Float RP2
Wheels: Shimano M785 XT "Race" 559x21mm rims, 9x100 Q/R front, 10x135 Q/R rear, Maxxis Ardent 26x2.25" tyres, toobless.
Crank: Shimano M660-10 SLX 3x, BB71 press-fit Bottom bracket.
R. Derailleur: M663 SLX long-cage, 3x10-sp.
F. Derailleur: M780 XT low-clamp, 3x10
Shifters: M770-10 XT 3x10-sp.
Chain: M981 XTR
Cassette: M771 XT 10-sp, 11-36
Pedals: M980 XTR
Brakes: M775 XT, RT81 IceTech 160mm rotors
Other: Giant in-house aluminium seatpost, Fizik Gobi saddle (Ti rails), no-name aluminium 28.6x31.8x80mm stem, Ritchey WCS Carbon flat handlebar, 710mm x 5° sweep (need a bit more, #1 will get 9°), Jet Black red lock-on grips.
