DT Swiss 240s free hub removal

Hoping someone has some previous experience here... I need to service some DT Swiss 240s free hub. I have loads of experience in others but not these. Everything I have been able to google has suggested that the free hub body "just pulls off".

Well not for me...

Any suggestions? Do I need the specific tool?

cheers

Well a 340 freehub does just pull off. I've done it myself. You have to give them a good hard yank though, as there are a few seals.

They are all basically the same.
You are correct in saying that you can just yank them off but if there is any grit at all between the sleeve and the axle, or if it is dry, good luck !!
Also getting the free hub body off only gives you access to the ratchets.
DT Swiss has a special tool to undo the the "nut", for want of a better word, which houses the ratchet, to allow for removal and cleaning or replacement of the two bearings inside the hub itself.

It's much easier to pull the freehub off if there's a cassette on it. Gives you something to grip/hold on to.

Assuming it's already built into a wheel, flip the wheel over (cassette side down) and press hard on the back side of the cassette with your thumbs. The freewheel body and cassette will come off as one unit.

Bit of penetrant and she snaps right off! Has worked for all the bont..i mean DTswiss hubs ive worked on.

I use the park tool axle clamp, and clamp it in a vise and pull the wheel. I have the 240s singlespeed hub too and wrap the end of the axle in a bit of sponge and clamp that in the vise. But yeah it basically just pulls off, but it requires quite a bit of force.

Massive necro, but this is the best thread I could find...

I have a DT 240s hub from about 2017 or so. HG driver. 135mm QR rear end. Looking at converting to XD. Is this the driver I want, and does the existing HG driver just pull right off?

Edit: The driver below is what chatgpt recommended, thought I'd run it past the combined wisdom here.

Thanks all!

Fuck, there is so much room for a double entendre here!
Unlike when you're buying an AX lightness stem....
