David Blucher injured badly at Stromlo

Legend and personal pro photographer to all Stromlo riders, David Blucher, was hit by a rider on the weekend and suffered a spinal injury, he has undergone surgery and waiting to be been flown to Sydney.

I'll post some updates here as they come in, including a Go Fund Me that Mic from Dynamic Motivation is getting set up, I know everyone who has ever done a ride at Stromlo and been photographed by him is sending good vibes and would want to contribute to his recovery.

There would be only a couple of pics of me riding since 2016 if it weren't for David, and there's at least 30, it's awesome to be able to have those. I really hope he recovers well.

That sucks! He has been a friend of us for years - even if his photos bring out my beer belly....

Any idea what happened...? He usually is in sensible places, although he's given me a fright a couple of times as I didnt see him until I was virtually on top of him!

I believe he was at the spot in your pic above, near the maps right at the end, my mate who was there and assisted said a novice on an eMTB speared off the track and David took the full brunt, probable broken nose along with the spinal injury and beaten up pretty bad in general. It really does suck.

Minor update, I was confused on my OP as I read the Facebook post wrong, he's still here and awaiting transfer to Sydney, update from his son Finn:

No significant changes, we're still waiting for the transfer to Sydney, and we haven't gotten the breathing tube out. The care he's getting in ICU is simply amazing, but we're still pushing to get him to the specialists in Sydney.

Can confirm Canberra Hospital is pretty damn good for emergency care...

I have not heard mention of injuries and if David was sitting or crouched the rider may have minimal injuries if they hit then OTB'd, but I can imagine it would be psychologically terrible.

Not sure if he's been hit before, but 183,000 pics, most MTB and most of those Stromlo, I guess around 100k. So unfortunate.

This has gone over the target which is great.

I have some other bad news though, local MTBer Lejla Nikolas died from an unexpected major medical incident last night. I believe she worked for Dynamic Motivation, and was partner of Cornelius Weber who has been part of the Kowalski Brothers and the Canberra MTB scene a long time, also driving the DM shuttle bus recently. I am sure like me some of you have met Cornelius over time, he's a tops fella and this must be truly devastating.

Lung infection in hospital at his age is less than ideal... He'll be swimming in antibiotics!
