COVID-19: who’s going full doomsday prep on this?

Definitely should have gone to specsavers
Suppose it's a possibility but only way to know for sure i think is to get a blood test done which iirc is hard to get.
...
That's interesting. wonder if our immune systems merely just got onto it super quick before it could really replicate much. Still a bit of a confusing situation.
Yeah I can't see any rhyme or reason for it either. I know both families well, in one it was the mother who didn't get it, and in the other it was one of the kids. I'm not sure if they self-diagnosed or got a PCR; perhaps they were actually asymptomatic but the difficulties in accessing reliable testing prevented their true diagnosis.

I've heard two reports this week of families I know that have just had covid, and in both cases, one person in the household has not contracted it.
A lot of the people at work and their families have had this happen. It’s strange, but regardless when it hit work overall it spread really fast. We went from something like 3 cases when it first popped up, 10 within a few days, then up to 29 or so in about a week and a half. We were lucky in that work provided RAT tests to known close contacts when they arrived at work each morning, so it stopped that 29 becoming the whole site (~170 staff). Seemed like typical time until positive RAT test was 2-3 days, but some as late as 5 days.

Yeah there's a lot of confusion about the whole situation. first test i did was the saliva based one and the rest were the nasal swabs, so no idea if accuracy issues or if my body just suppressed cell replication enough so it wasn't detectable or what.

RAT or PCR? RAT you need a high viral load I think. If asymptomatic perhaps you don't have one
RAT as state government is trying to ghost phase out PCR testing.

Suppose it's very possible I did get it but my body just suppressed it enough that RAT wasn't able to detect it.

i mean tbh i kinda hope I did get it just to get the infection over and done with but unless i get a blood test done wont know for sure.

I would think that is the case - mind you, I am a beer drinking stupid cunt that works in a umm, government facility.
So not fact, just conjecture.

I didn't get it, heaps of my work mates did though

So prove it by leaving childish comments out.

Glad you were amused but i'm trying to actually converse here, if you are actually capable of that?
You just called people Karen’s up the page and now you’re reporting people for “childish insults”?!

@Dales Cannon i unreservedly apologise. You were right about this guy, dumber than dogshit dumb but convinced of his own brilliance. A real Craig Kelly.

Conversely, if the Chinese somehow knew about this mythical lab release and were in a credible position to stop it, do you not think they would have? It’s been incredibly costly for them too. The idea that they could have nipped this whole pandemic in the bud but deliberately chose not to is ridiculous- especially in light of the measures they were taking on their own people in early 2020.
No I don't think they would have because the culture of saving face is so ingrained that even in the face of a serious situation, obfuscate, lie, deny has been standard practice for ever. Herin lies the problem. We've seen it play out even after the fact with the censoring of their own medical professionals and pulling of research that hasn't fit the the govt narrative.

The who(or cdc, can't recall) investigation team that visited China under tight restrictions eventually came to the conclusion that they couldn't link the disease definitively to the wet markets and at a later stage after leaving China (when it was safe to say so) said they couldn't definitively exclude the lab leak theory either.

It's easy to wave it all away, but we're talking about China. Almost everything there is a freaking conspiracy

At no point have I ever said that our restrictions were a waste of time. They served us well for the first 18 months of the outbreak however by the end of that year and a half it was clear that they couldn’t be upheld any more. The infection rates during Melbourne’s last lockdown proved that too many people were emotionally and financially exhausted by it and compliance levels were dropping.

The emergence of the omicron variant has cemented that fact. There’s no doubt that even if NSW hadn’t shit the bed the moment they had a release stemming from hotel quarantine, there would have been more to follow. Meanwhile the anti-lockdown protests would have grown more and more.
It's a waste of my time conversing with you, you contradict yourself at the drop of hat.

These a bit of a narrative among experts in the field that the data shows China knew something was up before December. Possibly even as early as October.

There's another narrative along that one that the virus could have been an accidental leak from the wuhan virology institute that coincidentally studies among other things, corona viruses. Lots of sus activity reported around this theory, some with and some without merit.

The level of push back china has shown in allowing anyone to perform any meaningfull investigations is plainly suspicious. We may never know for sure, but it certainly looks plausible.

But IF China is infact hiding their knowledge of the original vector of the disease then its absolutely likley that things could have been different.

It's a bit naive to imagine it wouldn't be different if say they came out and actually said "hey we have a virus, it's real bad, you must do everything you can to protect yourselves" and suspended travel instead of what went on. Much of the record shows obfuscation, misdirection, censorship or plain lies.

Even with the virus circulating in smaller numbers early on, elimination wouldn't have been out of the question.

My suspicion, much like with a lot of what China does on the world stage, is they are lying and if they deny, deny deny, what is anyone going ro do about it? Nothing. The chance to come clean and prevent a world wide disaster passed quickly, so just deny. It's worked in the past, continues to work today and will into the future.

Just like there are no uigher camps, or other human rights abuses, no organ harvesting of prisoners etc.

It reminds me of the time my wife's dad drove his car through their brick fence while drunk. Car paint on the fence, bricks in the car.
"Nah wasn't me, somone backed into me at the shopping center and coincidentally somone else must have smashed into out fence.
How do I explain the paint? Must have been the same coloured car that smashed the fence.
Oh the bricks in the car? The guy that smashed the fence must have put them there"
He towed that line till he died.
The CCP suppresses their media, politicians and censors their internet, if that isn't suspect enough, they also didn't want independent professionals investigating where the original source of the virus came from. We'll never really know if what they claim is the truth, they are entitled to be secretive and they govern their own country, but there's still that dark cloud that hangs over their head. The virus is a world changing event and the more professionals that look at the issue, the more heads you have investigating and thinking about the issue, the more success they'll have to combat an outbreak like this it in the future.

It's like when the cops tried to follow me into my driveway the other day because they had thought that I had tried to evade an RTB that was stationed out the front of my home, first they put me on the breatho, and then they asked what I had hidden in my car. I had nothing to hide and just offered them to look inside as much as they like, he said not to bother and went on his way. I'm not insulted or embarrassed by them, they were just doing their job.

Given the initial symptoms presented like 'flu and given it would need to spread madly for it to be worthy of review AND the time it would take to investigate there is no way this could have been contained anywhere in the world presuming it is a "natural" mutation of a viral strain. If it escaped from a lab... ...that is another story.

Despite the best efforts I doubt it is engineered but hey what would I know. Key is dealing with it. Elimination didn't and couldn't work. Minimisation while vaccines were created helped. Antivaxxers are fucktards selfishly putting the lives of others (those who can't be vaccinated and the highly vulnerable fuck their antivax mates) at risk. Misinformation that has meant lower vaccine uptake in remote communities is criminal and those responsible are culpable.

Management here has been lacking, especially from the top and a few places, like us, were incredibly lucky.
